Gameplay de Call of Cthulhu

Digitally Downloaded 90/100

« Call of Cthulhu is the Cthulhu RPG I never realized I needed in my life. From the moment the atmosphere shifted upon entry to Darkwater, I was hooked. The Cthulhu mythology is presented with obvious appreciation for the source material, crafting a story of cosmic horror and the cults being crazy enough to worship those beings. Aside from some difficulty with sneaking, the game makes the descent into madness... fun? Can one have fun when descending into madness? »

GameSpew 80/100

« Call of Cthulhu weaves a supernatural detective tale that’s frequently unsettling, occasionally horrifying and always engaging. »

SpazioGames 80/100

« Call of Cthulhu, although held back by a poor visual presentation, is nonetheless a great game which will be greatly enjoyed by Lovecraft fans. »

IGN Spain 75/100

« An adventure that will be enjoyed by H.P. Lovecraft's fans with a good setting but certain lack of action/puzzles making its story its strongest weapon to chain you to its desperation abyss. »

Multiplayer.it 75/100

« Call of Cthulhu is a good third action RPG, based on the stories of H. P. Lovecraft. It is neither perfect nor deep, but it remains a pleasant adventure. »

COGconnected 75/100

« What started off as a story that seemed to plod along quickly escalated and kept me hooked from start to finish. Despite its technical hiccups, there’s almost a certain charm to the way game looks and sounds, and those goofy animations at moments, and almost cheesy voice acting from some characters only help it further. »

GameCritics 75/100

« If the devs had simply dropped the skill points and let players freely explore at their own pace, it would have been a better experience. It’s still a good one, though, and a required play for anyone with even the slightest interest in the mythos that inspired it. Ratin »

GameCrate 75/100

« Call of Cthulhu suffers from a slow opening, but those who can make it deeper will find a satisfying horror mystery with plenty of twists and turns. »

« Call of Cthulhu is an atmospheric horror RPG with an intriguing story and investigative mechanics, but the gameplay is clunky and repetitive. Combat and stealth can feel inconsistent, and some missions drag, breaking the tension. While the Lovecraftian setting is compelling and the story has moments of genuine intrigue, the execution falls short, making it an uneven experience overall. »

« Number of playthroughs: 1 Hours played: 10 Actual Rating: 6 but I give it 8 because my issue is regarding platinum triphy I think I mistook Call of Cthulhu for another game (The Sinking City, maybe?) and assumed it was third-person and similar to the Resident Evil series or Dead Space. So imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a first-person detective/walking sim–style horror **** game is set in a Lovecraftian world and was really fun for me to explore. The main character is voiced by the same actor from Vampyr, so the voice acting is top-notch. Gameplay mainly involves walking around, talking to people, finding objects, and recreating crime scenes. Near the end, you do get a gun—but don’t expect combat. You aim, shoot, and that’s it. No elaborate mechanics. It’s a weird little game, and I liked it more than I thought I would. It was made by the same developers that created Werewolves apocalypse and this game is 100 times better than that. I even liked it enough to try and platinum it. But two things stopped me: 1 - Scarcity of reliable guides. Smaller games like CoC have fewer fans, so guides and walkthroughs are limited. The game has multiple endings, and different sources contradict each other on how to get them. 2 - Buggy hidden item spawns. One achievement requires you to find 20 out of 26 hidden items. Sounds simple, but during my platinum run, I noticed that some hidden items refused to spawn—even when I had enough points in the spot-hidden skill. Sometimes reloading a checkpoint made the item appear, but not always. This happened multiple times in Chapter 3. I tried everything: reloading, starting a new save, rebuilding my database—nothing worked. Eventually I got frustrated and deleted the game. Total shame.I enjoyed the game enough to attempt a platinum, but I stopped when I hit those glitches. Another sad thing about smaller, lesser-known games is that the devs often never patch them—this game is 7 years old and still buggy. Final verdict: It was a solid 7/10 for me, but I’d knock it down to a 6 because of the bugs. Is this game for you? If you love Lovecraftian worlds and stories, and you enjoy walking sims and detective-style gameplay, then this might be your thing. Just be wary of the glitches. »

« Played the ps4 version on the ps5, I found some of the levels very hard to pass, having to google help. The story line is cult, the ending was very lame. loved the detective work and how you could interact with objects. awesome roam game. awesome graphics. »

« I wanted to leave a review because it seems this game has a lower rating than I think it deserves. The atmosphere is fantastic. Music is good. Characters and story are interesting. The graphics are nice especially some of the outdoors environments. I haven’t enjoyed a game for a while but this game really drew me in and I finished it in a few nights. I would hope that it can one day receive a frame rate boost (the frame rate is pretty choppy, especially in outside environments, and thus shouldn’t be the case on modern powerful consoles. There are some pacing issues during the game but the story all in all is decent enough. Finally, I wish the world was more open world where u can travel by yourself between the locations on the island, E.g. between the harbour, mansion, prison etc., rather than starting each level at those locations.7.5/10 »

« il comparto grafico non è all’altezza, ma la storia narrata e l’ambientazione lasciano senza fiato. Da amante di Lovecraft e dell’omonimo gioco di ruolo è stata una piacevolissima sorpresa. »

Ikelos667 2/10

« Honestly, this one was a letdown. It had the potential to be something eerie and memorable, but it felt shallow and slow. The detective gameplay is basic, the scares are mild, and it never really leans into the madness you'd expect from Lovecraft. The story tries to be mysterious, but it ends up feeling predictable and underwhelming. Not terrible, just very forgettable, especially compared to better cosmic horror experiences out there. If you're craving Lovecraft, Dark Corners of the Earth or even indie titles like The Last Door do a much better job. »

exfalinn 8/10

« The atmosphere of the Call of Cthulhu is well captured in this first-person investigation game. The story is well written. The difficulty is fairly random between the different chapters. The character moves very slowly, even when running. »

Cipollinaverde 8/10
