Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek est sorti le 7 décembre 2018 sur PC, Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One et Google Stadia. Développé par DYNAMIC PIXELS et édité par Gearbox Publishing et tinyBuild, ce préquel dramatique de Hello Neighbor retrace l'histoire tragique de la famille du voisin à travers une partie de cache-cache jouée avec un frère, alors que tous deux font face à la perte d'un membre de la famille, et explique les événements ayant mené au jeu d'horreur furtif originel. Classé parmi les genres aventure, jeu de rôle et réflexion, le titre utilise le moteur Unreal Engine 4 et propose une durée de cinq heures pour l'histoire principale et sept heures et demie pour un parcours complet, au prix de 28,99 euros. L'accueil critique est mitigé, avec un score OpenCritic de 38 et une note agrégée de 43,61. La presse a salué un jeu visuellement plaisant au style artistique soigné, tandis que certains observateurs regrettent que Hide and Seek ne se démarque pas assez de son prédécesseur et n'étoffe pas la franchise au-delà de son scénario. De leur côté, des joueurs sur Metacritic ont jugé l'histoire bonne et les graphismes identiques à ceux du premier opus, tout en notant une certaine lassitude passé un moment, tout en reconnaissant globalement un bon jeu.

« Horrível, simplismente HORRÍVEL. Tá, a história é boa, mas pela mor de deus, 5 NÍVEIS E TODOS IGUAIS?! Além disso a dificuldade é irritante, todos os níveis são identicos, e a dificuldade faz você querer jogar sua casa da ponte. (SPOILER AGORA): Todos os níveis tem um simples e chato objetivo, pegar objetos e jogar na cesta de roupas, enquanto foge do seu irmão, mas o jogo está lotado de bugs e o seu irmão é roubadasso, ele é muito mais rapido que você e ele tira os objetos da cesta, joguei o primeiro ato e já achei chato, fui no segundo achando que seria mais legal e depois de 6h de jogo NÃO CHEGUEI NEM PERTO DO FINAL, PEGA ESSE DInHEIRO E COMPRA COXINHA QUE É MELHOR. »

« Even though I said Hello Neighbor is a very good game, but after the release of Hide and Seek, I realized that it is much better than the original game. If we compare them, we can understand that Hide and Seek visually looks better, though it is slightly monotonous. And I as a fan of this game, I can safely say that the Original game deserves 7/10, and its prequel all 10/10. (I used a translator, so there may be mistakes) »
