Description (IGDB)

Mario Super Sluggers, the sequel to Mario Superstar Baseball, continues the arcade-style gameplay of Mario sports games. Mario and friends are invited to the Baseball Kingdom to play games against each other. When Bowser hears this, he immediately interrupts the party. There are several game modes to choose from like in the previous game. In Exhibition mode, players play a single game against each other. Players can choose different options such as how many innings to play, if captains can use star powers (each captain has a different star swing and pitch), and toggle error items off and on (error items can be thrown at fielders). The single-player Challenge mode is different this time around. Instead of choosing a team captain, players start with Mario who must find teammates to take on Bowser Jr. and Bowser. Teammates aren't unlocked by playing a game rather they only join the team by clearing certain objectives. Most of the action takes place on areas with an overhead perspective; each area is based around a team captain. Each captain has a special ability to find teammates and coins, which are used to buy items to aid in the quest or in a game against Bowser Jr. or later against Bowser. More coins can be gotten in minigames. Toy Field mode is slightly different to the one featured in Mario Superstar Baseball. Like in the GameCube game, players take turns batting to get points; a turn is granted to whomever grabs and holds the ball after a certain amount of time has passed. Unlike in the previous game, however, fielders can attack each other to steal the ball away from whomever has it. The batter can also throw items at the fielders to cause them to drop the ball and grant the batter another turn.

Histoire (IGDB)

The story takes place in the challenge mode of the game. Mario and friends travel to Baseball Kingdom for some relaxation and to play some baseball, when Bowser Jr. suddenly appears and throws the island into chaos. Mario must travel around the island and through each of the unique and specialized areas in order to recruit different characters and captains to challenge Bowser Jr. to a game of baseball. Once Bowser Jr. has been defeated, he retreats, but then Bowser appears to challenge Mario's team and take over the island. Upon defeating Bowser, Mario's team all celebrate and throw a huge party. Bowser and Jr. are invited to the party as well and Bowser ends up saving Mario from one of Wario's and Waluigi's tricks.

Avis des critiques et joueurs

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

Games Master UK 80/100

« A step back for Wii baseball controls, but enough of a gameplay leap to warrant playing. [Sept 2008, p.70] »

GameDaily 80/100

« A major improvement on the formula first introduced in 2005 with "Mario Superstar Baseball" on the GameCube. »

GameSpy 80/100

« The biggest control-related issues arise from the system's imperfect recognition of your motions and button presses. »

NintendoWorldReport 80/100

« I recommend it highly to anyone that missed the first game, but anyone who played the GameCube original to completion won’t see much of a difference. »

n-Revolution Magazine UK 80/100

« Mario Super Sluggers oozes the kind of kinetic gameplay and light-hearted fun that the Wii was built for. »

Universo Nintendo 80/100

« Nintendo loses the chance of releasing an "Excellent" game, as it only remains "Great" because of the repeated graphics engine and only being an upgrade to "Mario Superstar Baseball." »

Nintendo Gamer 79/100

« It isn't quite the game we were hoping for, but taken as another Mario sports game rather than a baseball sim, it's as solid and enjoyable as you'd expect. [JPN Import; Sept 2008, p.52] »

Nintendo Power 75/100

« This baseball diamond loses some of its luster with occasionally confusing or clunky play (it's too easy to accidentally pitch or swing prematurely), but the game's simplified approach is great for sports-curious gamers looking to avoid the complexities of a real simulation. [Oct 2008, p.87] »

AJSavage11 8/10

« It's a fantastically fun game with flaws. The controls can be buggy on occasion, which detracts from the flaws, and the challenge mode, really a story mode, can be too short or too easy. However, the vast majority of the game is brilliantly fun, and I'd highly suggest it as a game to play with friends (or alone, if you're willing to learn the game and brave the level 4 CPUs). »

MaCoasters 10/10

« Mario Super Sluggers is such a fun game. The challenge mode, while easy, is very fun, going around and unlocking the characters. The minigames are also very fun with over 10+ of them, which for a baseball game, is very solid. But, the exhibition mode is out of this world. Grab your wiimotes, grab a friend, and play a match. You will not regret it. Also, the character roster is very solid. It was actually the biggest Nintendo roster (42 Characters) at the time of launch in 2008. The batting mechanics are elite, the pitching mechanics are elite, the fielding is elite, you get the point. For a seemingly base-line baseball game, it brings so much fun and then more. 11/10 drop everything and play now. »

MetalMariofan64 7/10

« The controls are really uncomfortable. If this would have been compatible as a Wii Classic Controller or Gamecube Controller only mode (I mean gameplay being way similar to GameCube prequel as SuperStar Baseball). I would be very happy. The rest as story mode and exhibition mode and characters as K. Rool and his kremlings is fine and fun. And I enjoyed it. But I'm not used to the motion controls style . »

Bowserpepoh 9/10

« This is such a fun game i play this with my friend daily vibrant graphics fun gameplay just an excellent game. »

RadioSPD 10/10

« HOW IS THIS LEGIT BETTER THAN EVERY SINGLE MARIO SPORTS GAME ON THE SWITCH WHAT »

WLS_Silver 10/10

« Goated everything. The music, the gameplay, and the characters. Such an awesome roster and creates for the most fun local pvp you can ever had. WE NEED A SEQUEL PLEASE. »

Bradyherbst7 8/10

« How is a game for 2008 better than a modern day mario sports game. Nintendo this should be your standard for sports titles. »

Zpocalypse 10/10

« As a huge baseball and Mario fan, this game is perfect. I play most of the time with a sideways Wii remote but I do think the motion controls work very well in this game being as simple as they are. The roster of characters is great and I love that everyone has different stats and abilities really separating everyone from being a copy and paste of other characters. The story mode in this game, while not having a ton of actual plot, is very fun and works like a collection of baseball related challenges and puzzles in order to grow your roster of characters. I loved playing this game as a kid with friends and I still love playing it off and on by myself just for fun or a personal challenge. This is a game I have always enjoyed, there was not one second of playing this game was I bored. I really wish that the community surrounding this game was larger and more active. I want to see a competitive scene for this game, mods for this game, fan games made from it. Most of all, I want Nintendo to put out a Mario Baseball game on the Switch and/or whatever there next console is going to be called. While I am not sure they can top this masterpiece of gaming, it would still be a great time. »
