Mario Kart: Super Circuit, développé par Nintendo et Intelligent Systems et édité par Nintendo, Gradiente et iQue, est sorti le 21 juillet 2001 sur Game Boy Advance, Wii U et Nintendo 3DS. Ce jeu de course arcade propose l'action classique de la série avec Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Wario, Yoshi et Bowser sur quarante circuits semés d'armes et d'obstacles comme des carapaces de Koopa ou des peaux de banane. Le mode Battle permet d'utiliser des champignons, bananes, éclairs et étoiles, et jusqu'à quatre joueurs peuvent s'affronter avec un seul Game Pak, des fonctionnalités supplémentaires étant débloquées si chaque participant possède sa propre copie. La durée principale est estimée à trois heures et le temps pour tout compléter à vingt-six heures et demie, avec une note moyenne agrégée de 82,82.
La presse a salué le titre, Media and Games Online Network évoquant un jeu proche de la perfection mêlant action solo et multijoueur à quatre, tandis que Hot Games y voyait tout le plaisir de l'original dans la paume de la main. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic regrettent en revanche que le multijoueur soit difficile à cause du câble Game Boy et que le système de notation du Grand Prix soit si strict que trois étoiles semblent impossibles sans triche ou assistance technique.

« Considering this game was made on this hardware, its pretty good, a lot better than Super Mario Kart (The first Mario Kart) which is the other 2D Mario Kart. The problem is this was the 3rd Mario Kart, and comparing to 64 and the others, this one has to go as a weaker title. And its not necissarily because of the tracks and music, but driving mechanics aren't as good as the previous release (Mario Kart 64). As a game as a whole considering the hardware, it still is enjoyable though. »
