Mario Kart 7, septième opus de la série Mario Kart, est sorti le 2 décembre 2011 sur Nintendo 3DS. Développé par Nintendo et le Nintendo EAD Software Development Group No.1, et édité par Nintendo et iQue, ce jeu de course arcade propose pour la première fois de faire voler les karts dans les airs et de les plonger sous l'eau, avec de nouveaux circuits, de nouvelles capacités stratégiques et des karts personnalisables. La durée de jeu pour l'histoire principale est estimée à sept heures et demie, tandis qu'un parcours complet peut atteindre quarante-neuf heures et demie. Le jeu a reçu une note moyenne agrégée de 82,46. La presse a salué son apport à la console, GamesRadar+ écrivant que « Mario Kart 7 is THE game the 3DS has been in dire need of », tandis que Modojo le qualifie sans hésitation du meilleur Mario Kart portable. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic le jugent au-dessus de la moyenne bien que non le meilleur de la série, et d'autres en font un favori personnel démarquant des opus Wii ou 8.

« Of all the Mario Karts, 7 is one of those different takes. A personal favorite for sure, over the average Wii or 8 usually being mentioned, but with MK7 you really get the best of both worlds. This game was evolution, not revolution. Come on, the most replayable in my opinion, off land driving, way more customization, takes the cake by far for me! »
« The 7 in mario kart 7 stands for 7/10, jokes aside, this game has an alright battle mode, not the best, ok nitro tracks overall, but it really shines with its retro tracks which I think are the best of the series, this game would probably be a decently high 8 or maybe, probably not but maybe even a 9, but unfortunately there is no vs mode, so you can only play online, which the servers are gone, or play in grand prix which limits you to a cup, or you could play local multiplayer but what if you don’t have anyone to play with so it is unfortunately a 7 for mario kart 7 unironically. »
