GamePro 90/100

« Played alone, against the computer, the game is barely worth popping out of its case. But, having even one other human opponent ups the fun exponentially--you just can't get the same satisfaction out of trash talking against a faceless computerized enemy. »

AtomicGamer 88/100

« In the end, Mario Party 8 is a fun game that I'd recommend to most Wii owners. Given that, this review was written from the perspective of having multiple people playing the game. With that out of the way, I'll just say one last time – Pick this one up, you and your friends will have a great time with it. »

GameTrailers 83/100

« The level of customization and personalization available in Mario Party 8 and the intuitive fun of the Wiimote make it the quintessential party accessory of 2007. What few control weaknesses are present are overshadowed by the inane fun and competition, a host of unlockables, and addictive mini-games. »

Yahoo! 80/100

« Let's be honest, who looks to party games for stunning originality, cutting-edge presentation, and engrossing single-player modes? It's Mario. He parties. So will you. »

Nintendojo 80/100

« It may be subtle, but they add a spritz of freshness to what many feel is a stale series, and is reason enough to purchase Mario Party 8, especially for those holding out for something new in the franchise. »

Console Gameworld 79/100

« Bottom line is that if you love Mario Party, you’ll still love Mario Party 8. If you don’t love the Mario Party games, this one isn’t going to do anything that will change your mind, even with the Wii controls. »

Cheat Code Central 78/100

« They did a good job giving Mario Party lovers what they like and, for once, they actually showed improvement and innovation. »

Nintendo Power 75/100

« It's not a perfect game, but it is a perfect fit for the Wii, and will likely be a series favorite for fans. [July 2007, p.92] »

« Mario Party 8 is a perfect exemple of shovlewere, because of it's tereble grafics, cluncky controls and awful multiplayer. This game is so trash that even if it is free I would still think it's not worth your time or mental health. I mean this game 100% had a rushed development cicle and I think they just wanted a new Mario Party game on the Wii and it shows because they couden't even make the game in 16:9 and insted it's 4:3 that is so lazy. At the end of the day I would recomend you to buy Mario Party 9 insted of 8 because of the massive diferens in qality where as Mario Party 9 has a realy incredible experience Party 8 defenetly has more content but it's so bad it's not even worth the trouble. »

I've been playing it for 18 years now, from when I was six until I was 23. This game was my childhood favorite during all our summer vacations, and we used to play it with two of my brothers. I thank my father who bought us this device and all the games. Whenever the sensor or any part of it broke, he would bring it immediately. Now I miss him a lot. Please pray for him. « I don't see why it has such a low Metacritic rating. It's a Mario Party game for many people, and seeing it like this hurts me a little. The game has excellent replayability. The maps are still memorable today, each with an exceptional gameplay style. The character roster is huge compared to a Mario Party game (from the time). For me, this game deserves this rating. »

« Massive childhood nostalgia **** my primary school (that's elementary for you Americans, ages 4-11), there was something called the After School Club where you'd all hang out in this room if your parents were working and couldn't pick you up for a few hours. Had biscuits, juice, gaming consoles, toys, a garden, all that stuff. They eventually got a Wii, and Mario Party 8 was the absolute best. Kids were crowding around to play this together while others watched; we were only allowed to have 20 minute intervals per group so everyone could get a turn, and I remember stretching the games out as much as possible so I could use the excuse of "Just let us finish this game!" and keep on playing. Upon remembering this game as an adult, I ended up going out and buying a Wii just for this - and it really is as fun as I remember it being. It's janky in the typical Wii motion controls way where I have to be in a very specific spot moving in a very specific way if I want it to pick up my movements properly, but this is absolutely one of my favourite Mario Party installments to this day. Love what they did with the city/hotel board (I'm terrible with names), best gimmick in here for sure, followed up by the train board where the carriages can all rearrange. Less a fan of the randomised chance element of Boo's mansion, but it's not unenjoyable. I'll still force any friends who are willing to play this with me. »

« Why are people saying that this is the best Mario Party game? Like **** game used gamecube **** game always used the wii remote (every minigame always had motion controls). The story mode is very rigged sometimes. The worst part is the minigames but especially that one minigame where you have to avoid the bullet bills and falling to win. If no one makes it, it is a tie! Like seriously!? It should have been who made it farther wins! And also there can only be one superstar if you tie then the rigged dice roll decides the winner (like in every mario party game in the past)! In conclusion go ahead and play this game but in the end you may regret playing this game! »
