Description (IGDB)

The superstars of the Mushroom Kingdom have gathered on the diamond to power up America's game! Pick a captain, fill your team with your favorite characters from the Mario universe, then hit the field. Each captain has a special Star Skill for pitching and batting, so whether you're hurling fireballs as Mario or blasting curving banana-ball dingers as DK, you've never played ball like this!

« The game's controls are top-notch, especially the arcade-style pitching and hitting. [Oct 2005, p.99] »

Play Magazine 85/100

« It wasn't exactly what I wanted. [Oct 2005, p.59] »

BonusStage 84/100

« At this point it does seem that Nintendo is milking their cash cow of a mascot a bit much, but as long as they keep the quality of the games on the up and up it's hard to complain. »

Pelit (Finland) 82/100

« A fun and easy-to-play sports game for the whole family. You can feel and see the Nintendo touch everywhere. What a nice experience. [Nov 2005] »

« The game contains all the elements to expect from a Ninty sport title; colourful graphics, classic Nintendo tunes and characters, addictive gameplay and simple fun. »

Da Gameboyz 80/100

« With easy to pick up and play controls, good sound, solid graphics, and a very enjoyable multiplayer component, one really can not go wrong with Mario Superstar Baseball. »

GameSpot 80/100

« While the game successfully melds Nintendo's signature charm to America's pastime, a couple of fundamental gameplay gaffes keep it from being the exceptional arcade hardball game that it could be. »

« 9/10 Cuz Boo does not have his N64 era voices. The others things as Story Mode and minigames are fun. I love more controllers modes than his sequels. Could have been 10 if nintendo could keep Boo voices from N64 era at least as 2 sounds clips... »

« A standout party game for GameCube that has a stellar single player mode. Every headline character feels unique when either hitting or pitching, and the supporting cast also shines depending on how to use them The game has some great mechanics and level design. The chemistry between characters is a great addition and can make a difference when putting your team together. On top of that the different upgrades for players is fun and fits right into the Mario sports style. The different ballparks makes every stadium feel unique without being distracting, you actually want to work on your skills to take full advantage of the parks. The greatest pro is the single player with multiple hours of replay-ability especially if you play as every character. There is also no reusage of dialogue which makes every play through feel unique as you try to unlock new characters The only con would be some customizable options like team name, uniforms, and maybe the mini games, but those are not a distraction to the main game »

« Mario adds baseball to the many sports he’s played, and it might be his best! Like the other GameCube Mario sports games, there is an opening cutscene which is entertaining to watch. At the time this came out, the character selection was the best in any Mario spin-off game. You have the main characters as captains and the team players are all unique and different. Some characters have chemistry with each other which makes you think about who to put on your team. The number of stadiums is a bit low with only six, but at least they are all distinct from one another. The core gameplay is really solid, a bit slow paced but feels totally fine. There is a feature called star skills which needs to charge up but when it does it allows you to do a special throw and it’s a good way to freshen things up. Anyone can use them but the captains have their own unique abilities like Mario’s fireball and DK’s banana ball. This game includes a story mode where you pick one of five team captains and take on the rest of them leading up to Bowser’s team. It’s pretty decent and you’ll have to play through it to unlock everything. The graphics looked quite good for the GameCube at the time. The soundtrack is awesome with many fun tunes, and the menu theme is a freakin banger! There is a “Toy Field” mode where four players take turns batting and earn coins depending what space you hit, and it’s strangely addicting! Each stadium has it’s own corresponding minigame including bob omb derby, chain chomp sprint and star dash. All of them are super fun to play! Once again, Mario makes a basic sport so much more fun and this one completely nailed it with so many different characters and features! »

« This game is beyond terrible the controls are dead unresponsive and it just doesn’t work out at all »

Suken 7/10

« Me gustó mucho la variedad de modos y minijuegos que te ofrece el videojuego. Hay muchos personajes, cada uno con atributos y estadísticas que los diferencian entre sí. Todos estos elementos en conjunto dotan al juego de una profundidad que se aprovecha estupendamente a la hora de jugar partidos. El juego merece mucho más la pena si se va a disfrutar en compañía, ya que los modos multijugador son extremadamente divertidos. »

« I LOVE playing this game and it is very entertaining! The game's gameplay is amazing and the graphics are smooth. But mario sport games can get repetitive and annoying and so does this one but it is still good. »

Cmart38 10/10

« Memories are flooding back. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! There was plenty of variation to it, and every game was different. The roster of characters, the stadiums, and everything else was amazing. »
