Super Contra
Description (IGDB)
Super Contra is a Run and Gun-style action game produced by Konami, originally released as a coin-operated arcade game in 1988. It is the sequel to the original Contra and the second game in the Contra series released for the arcades. Like in the original game, the game centers on soldiers Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, who are once again assigned to protect the Earth from an army of alien invaders. The game features standard side-scrolling stages, as well as all new overhead stages in lieu of the original game's "3D" stages.
Histoire (IGDB)
A year after the battle with the Red Falcon Organization, Bill and Lance are sent on another mission. This time, the alien forces have taken over an allied military base, possessing most of its troops. Bill and Lance must not only fight against their former comrades-in-arms, but also a new mutated form of the same alien creatures they fought during their previous mission.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« It's got all of the classic gameplay of its predecessor, and most of the graphics are terrific. Couple this with some excellent music, and you definitely have a winner. Unfortunately, the incredibly high level of difficulty is going to turn off almost everyone except the most hardcore of gamers. »
« It’s extremely challenging and demanding, so those looking for a more casual shooter might be best served going for another game. Additionally, the lightweight “enhanced” graphics and audio don’t bring the game as far into the next-gen era as some XBLA titles have done. »
« Old-time arcaders will dig the ramped-up challenge: Super's tough even with a partner, and we had to lower the difficulty and hoard the spread gun - our sidearm soulmate - to beat all five levels solo. [Sept 2007, p.76] »
« Super Contra's blistering level of difficulty makes it best suited for those looking for an exceptionally punishing arcade run-and-gun experience. »
« With limited continues and a good level of challenge, this game definitely won’t be a cakewalk. Just don’t expect anything that spectacular, either. »
« Super Contra should only be downloaded by the most experience arcade players. Its difficulty will make the learning curve too high for novice players giving it a run-through for the first time. »
« Insanely hard. [Issue#24, p.101] »
« From ugly borders and out of place visual effects to choppy net code, it's clear that a lot more work could have gone into this title. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« Super Contra maintains one of the worse ports in gaming, with not being able to insert coins, rearrange aspects, and in general not improving on anything about the game, it's better to simply get the NES version. As a game itself, Super Contra simply doesn't hold a candle to the original, the Konami code makes it a cake walk, and not having it is just brutal. »
« La verdad que esta muy bien para aquella época, tengo que admitir que la jugabilidad esta maso menos pero aun así me gusta, un control fácil y una dificultad mediana decente así que para mi es un 8. Tengo que admitir que yo no se ingles y solo lo jugué para ver como era y pasarla bien, así que por la historia y demás no se mucho pero para mi es un 8 sinceramente se lo merece, gran juego! »
« An absolute joke of a release and waste of money regardless the price. Shamelessly crapped out as a quick money grab during the XBLA's infancy this game does nothing to truly enhance or refine the original arcade release, such as including widescreen support, improve the graphics (the "enhanced" mode actually just makes things difficult to see), update the god-awful controls or provide any extended stages. There are a million things to nitpick, such as the delay when aiming, short range of fire during top-down stages and an inability to differentiate weapon drops, but I'd only be wasting my time. In short, if you're looking for great Contra action stick to the classic NES versions of Contra and Super C, Contra 3 Alien Wars on the SNES or the more recent Contra 4 on Nintendo DS and be sure to avoid this putrid XBLA arcade port at all costs. »
