Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain
Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain

« Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is the best entry in the series. It’s also just a ton of fun, in case you were worried at all that killing endless waves of giant bugs and aliens could be boring. I hope future entries will adopt and adapt everything Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain has added to the series. It’s certainly a better game for it and retains so many of the things longtime fans have come to love about the series. I’m happy to report that the EDF is back in business. »
« With a dollop of polish, a variety of new locations and much more challenging enemies EDF: Iron Rain might just be the best entry in the series so far, and while the trademark jank remains, new franchise developer Yuke's has done a fantastic job of tweaking the formula without breaking it. EDF: Iron Rain is a must for fans of the series and fans of fast-paced, deeply fun shooters alike. »
« Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain shakes up the series at its core, and still manages to be a decidedly great EDF game. Character creation and the PA-Gear fit right in and offer a newfound sense of personalization and freedom, while the grim presentation and heightened difficulty will keep you engaged throughout. It’s a real gem. »
« It had been several years since I had played Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon so I was a tad worried about doing the series justice in this review, but I can definitely say that outside of a couple of issues with giant insects blocking my camera view, repeatedly getting knocked down when surrounded by the critters, and the sensitivity of clicking L3 to turn around when moving backwards, Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is a solid entry into the EDF series and one that anyone wanting to blast the heck out of giant insects should enjoy. »
« It is probably the purest throw back to the run and gun shooters of old. »
« I just can’t quit Iron Rain. It’s just too addictively fun to give up on and any EDF fan that’s been around long enough is most likely used to these games having a few blemishes. In the case of Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain, in particular, the good definitely outweighs the bad. »
« If you want a game which is pretty much the polar opposite of the vast majority of modern AAA titles — in most of the right ways — I can wholeheartedly recommend Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain. »
« Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain may be a different type of EDF but its heart is powered by the epic bug-blasting, kaiju fighting combat that has always been the hallmark of the series’ incredible combat. »

« I don't see why people dislike this game so much. I've played the previous game and this one is much better, there are more customization options, there's better graphics, better button layout (for controllers at least) I believe more people should play it. But I do see why some people who played the previous games don't like this one. The previous games are something I can't describe with word, and this one is pretty different. »
« I can see a lot of old fans of the franchise criticize Iron rain. They certainly have their point, but that just doesn't bother me. Iron rain is my first EDF, and I LOVE it. The graphics look good, gamepkay is super fun and satisfactory, and the story is amazing. It really gives you the sense that the world is desperate, and you're fighting for a cause. The control feels just right for me. In fact, after Iron rain I tried EDF 5 as well, it's just awkward, the button mapping is different, and running in EDF 5 feels so heavy and slow. The graphic looks okay-ish actually with EDF 5, but to me Iron rain is just a better game in pretty every way. »
« Going from EDF 5 to EDF Iron Rain is like going from Disneyland to a baby's diaper, it stinks... In all honesty, this game feels extremely awkward and slow compared to the last EDF. The missions seem aimless and lack the swarms of enemies we are used to. We also stood completely still for a big boss fight and it literally never hit us. This game feels lazy and honestly is just using the name of the franchise to make money, what a shame. Let's hope Sandlot can deliver us something actually worth our time in EDF 6. »
« This game is too short. and it feels incomplete, the story ends abruptly. Story: 6 Game play: 8 Music: 6 Visuals : 8 Personal score: 6 »
« I enjoyed my time with this game, but it is technically flawed and many design choices are rather baffling. I loved the advances it made in many areas, but it feels like they also make the clunkiness even more apparent. Often it feels like the game is just flat out cheating to make you lose, and PvP is barren and clearly half-baked with no real thought put into it. PvE is excellent, though netcode feels clunky. I still enjoyed it, but it has severe technical difficulties. »
« DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS Acceleration of the rotation, you can't disable. rubbish AI Limited everything stupid PENALTIES for using any EQUIPMENT ( I didn't use ANYTHING since started because of it) no communication phrases no song no commands can't point at stuff like in 4.1 boring stupid weapons with dull design you have to unlock and then f**g BUY 90% mobs are ignoring AI soldiers NPC AI is a trash piece of hot garbage in comparison to any other EDF games »
« This is not a EDF game! Broken loot system. Broken armor system. Broken shooting system. Broken damage system. Broken difficult system. Awkward revive mechanic. Revive Timer. Weapon unlocking system. This game is broken! But yae, graphic look cool... »
« This game tries to overcome or do away with some of the series long standing flaws, namely hilariously dated graphics, frustratingly clunky controls, and sever imbalance between the classes utility. And for the most part it succeeds. However it has lost much of the charm, the classes themselves are now more homogenous and thus less unique, and the game is shorter then the other entries in the series by a notable amount. »
