Red Steel
Red Steel

« Clearly designed with the hardcore gamer in mind. It's slick, addictive and as close to "cool" as a game can get. [Christmas 2006, p.68] »
« It's liquid movement... A massive improvement on previous console FPS control... Not only making excellent use of the Wii's controllers, this is huge fun in its own right. For a launch title to get so much right is an indicator of great things to come. [Dec 2006, p.70] »
« What makes Red Steel shine is a mixture of slick graphic novel-style cut-scenes, deft use of the hardware(reflection maps abound)and its wonderfully orchestrated gun and sword play. [Jan. 2007, p.48] »
« It's a superb shooter with a great plot, innovative gameplay and some really brilliant moments that will surprise even the most seasoned of gamer. It's a decent length too, with a good 15 hours of play in the main mode. But some control issues and patchy inconsistencies (mainly in the physics and level design) pull it short of earning that juicy [90] score. »
« Not only is there a lot of game to enjoy in Red Steel; it's a great jumping-off point for Wii development. [Jan. 2007, p.106] »
« Red Steel is an achievement both in its own extremely playable right, but also as a benchmark that other developers must meet - and hopefully exceed. »
« It is a fun and skilled gamer experience that requires some learning and patience. You will enjoy Red Steel the first time around, but I don’t see any space for replayability value. »
« Some clever ideas and enjoyable moments, inside an average (but solid enough) shooter. [Christmas 2006, p.78] »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« "Red Steel" is a decent shooter that feels unfinished. A launch title for the Wii, it can be fun, but suffers some technical issues. In terms of tone and gameplay, this is similar to "Goldeneye: Rogue Agent". Using the Wiimote to aim guns is pretty responsive. However, controls for the Sword Fighting are pretty broken. Also, at checkpoints, you can expect small freezes to occur. The quality of the graphics is inconsistent as well. The game also includes split-screen competitive modes. I would rate this with a 6.3 out of 10. »
« Id love to say this game was great, however, I simply can not. I have never raged quite as hard at a game as I did with Redsteel. The storyline is actually quite decent & voice acting isn't that bad either, the art style is quite different and honestly the shooter aspect to this game is quite fun too, it's smooth and fluid with satisfying shot sounds and vibration. HOWEVER, the insane sword fights with the broken janky motion controls makes some of the fights ludicrously hard. There was times where I was stuck on a sword fight for days and days solely because of the horrendous motion control read out. It registered the correct movement maybe 20% of the time. I tried 2 separate sensor bars and 3 different controllers & nunchuks, to rule out it being on my end and both times I got the same results. This is the first game that has ever made me rage out and break a nunchuk because of that. So with that being said I would have given this game a solid 7/10, but, with the shear amount of sword battles you have to struggle through each stage, it drops it to a mediocre 4.5-5 PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK. »
« "Red Steel" is a decent shooter. It's fun, but the action can get repetitive and tech issues hurt the experience. Overall, the quality is more on the level of "Goldeneye: Rogue Agent" than the Wii remake of "Goldeneye 007". The levels are linear and feature occasional sword fights that are quite basic in execution. It's also too bad the game slightly freezes at checkpoints. The graphics are decent for a launch title. If you're looking for an enjoyable Wii shooter, there are much better choices. In the end, I would rate this with a 6.2 out of 10. »
« Red Steel: A Pioneering Journey into Interactive Swordplay. Red Steel, released in 2006, holds a special place in gaming history as a title that dared to innovate, delivering a unique and immersive experience that, in many ways, was ahead of its time. While it may not have achieved the widespread acclaim of some blockbuster titles, its groundbreaking approach to combining first-person shooting with swordplay makes it a trailblazer in the gaming landscape. »
« A decent Yakuza-themed FPS with Wii motion controls. You can carry up two firearms and create some environmental destruction with your blazing guns. On occasion, you'll have to use your sword during one-on-one fights. The game's development was seemingly rushed. Small freezes occur during auto saves and a loading message appears as you enter new areas. Overall, the game provides some arcade-style fun. Overall, this is a 6.5 out of 10. »
« Utter garbage. Spare the pain and play something else. Ubisoft keep behing ubisoft »
« What are people smoking? This isn't a horrible game, it's honestly great. Story very underrated and the atmosphere was unique with this game. Yeah enemy AI was a little stupid at times but a lot of games has this problem. »
