Crysis 2, développé par Crytek Frankfurt et édité par Electronic Arts, est sorti le 22 mars 2011 sur PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 et PC. Suite d'un des plus grands shooters sur PC, ce jeu de tir et d'aventure propulse pour la première fois les joueurs de consoles dans la gameplay de Crytek, avec une invasion alien à New York ravagée par des catastrophes climatiques et une épidémie. Le joueur incarne un supersoldier équipé de la Nanosuit 2, une technologie d'amélioration au combat permettant de s'adapter en temps réel via les modes Discrétion, Armure et Force. Le titre utilise le CryEngine 3 et intègre une campagne solo à IA challenante, un multijoueur jusqu'à 12 joueurs, ainsi que des contenus de l'Édition Limitée et des packs Retaliation et Decimation incluant cartes et armes supplémentaires. Le jeu affiche un score Metacritic de 86 et une note agrégée de 83,95, pour un temps de campagne principal d'environ neuf heures et près de quatorze heures et demie en complétionniste, au prix de 29,99 euros avec la protection DRM SolidShield. La presse a salué l'ensemble du titre : Machinima a relevé que Crysis 2 rassemble campagne solo captivante, modes multijoueur intéressants et armes variées, tandis quXbox World Australia a affirmé avoir adoré le jeu de bout en bout, le trouvant magnifique et fluide avec une campagne satisfaisante. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic estiment que c'est le meilleur opus de la série malgré l'abandon du thème open world, ou notent beaucoup d'action mais une variété d'ennemis perfectible, et un avis Steam résume l'expérience comme prenante.
