IGN 90/100

« Once again, the Pokemon crew create a game that works extremely well for the handheld market. It doesn't have quite the same variety as "Ruby/Sapphire," but it's still incredibly satisfying. »

« Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen are simple, clean remakes of the original Kanto games, and they do exactly what they’re supposed to do without overcomplicating anything. They modernize the Gen 1 experience with updated mechanics, better balance, and a much smoother overall flow. Kanto itself is still a great region to revisit. Even if it’s more straightforward than later generations, the structure is solid and the progression feels consistent from start to finish. The Sevii Islands also add a bit of extra content, which helps the post-game feel more complete than the originals. The biggest strength here is how polished everything feels for its time. Battles are faster, mechanics are improved, and it serves as a perfect entry point for newer players while still respecting the original games. That said, it is still very simple compared to later generations, and it doesn’t try to add many bold new ideas. It’s a safe remake, but a very well-executed one. »

« Ahhh, Pokémon FireRed. One of the most memorable games of my childhood. I still remember the first time I played it when I was around 8 years old. Until then, I only knew and admired the Pokémon anime, but this game was what truly introduced me to the Pokémon world. It is one of those games that I have played so many times that I have lost count. It was a huge part of my childhood, my teenage years, and even my adult life. One, two, three, four, or even five playthroughs would still be far fewer than the number of times I have completed and restarted this adventure. The game offers a very enjoyable journey through the Kanto region, where we catch Pokémon, battle trainers, and work toward becoming the Pokémon Champion. Building your team, discovering new species, and training them throughout the adventure makes the experience incredibly rewarding. One of the game's greatest strengths is its sense of progression. Every new city, Gym, and area explored feels like an important step forward in the journey. The battles are easy to understand but still require strategy, especially when considering Pokémon types and moves. "Catching them all," obtaining at least one of every Pokémon, exploring every area, reaching the highest levels, and defeating every Gym Leader were always some of my main goals. The game constantly gave me reasons to keep exploring and improving my team. For me, Pokémon FireRed is a timeless classic that perfectly captures the spirit of adventure, exploration, and collection that defines the Pokémon franchise. It is a game that every Pokémon fan should play at least once. »

« Timeless classic, played and beat this game so many times as a kid and never got sick of it. »

« Pokémon FireRed on Switch delivers a timeless, tightly designed RPG experience that still holds up thanks to its strong core gameplay, smooth progression, and charming presentation. The $20 price point adds significant value, especially with previously limited event content like Ho Oh, Lugia, and Deoxys now fully accessible, making this one of the most complete versions of the game. However, the re-release falls short in modernization, lacking online trading and battling, meaningful quality of life improvements, and showing technical issues in docked mode. While it’s an excellent and accessible way to revisit a classic, the minimal enhancements keep it from reaching its full potential. »

LendasGeek 10/10
