« Monster Hunter Rise is, put simply, the very best Monster Hunter game to date. Everything it does, it does well, and everything it doesn't do is just around the corner. It's a beautiful, enjoyable, exciting game, taking all the best parts of World and combining it with all the best parts of classic Monster Hunter, then adding a swathe of new features, monsters, play-styles, and more. It's a sharp incline for the series, a rise to the top if you'll forgive the pun, and it's likely to entertain and captivate for weeks, months, and years on end. If you only ever play one Monster Hunter game in your life, make it this one. »

Switch Player 100/100

« Monster Hunter Rise is a success built on years of gradual improvements, but it also takes some giant Wirebug leaps forward to deliver an unforgettable and endlessly thrilling adventure. This is a new contender for the best game on Switch. »

IGN Japan 100/100

« While the essential component of repeatedly hunting monsters remains the same, the action elements have been refined with the introduction of the Wirebug and Switch Skill systems, and even monsters from previous games offer a fresh hunting challenge. The new Rampage mode, where the player must battle multiple large monsters at once, offers a stunning balance of difficulty and variety. »

Shindig 100/100

« Monster Hunter has gone from strength to strength over the years, and Monster Hunter World in particular felt like a high point for the series. But Monster Hunter Rise manages to one-up even that ambitious game. A renewed focus on vertical level design and mobility take everything that makes Monster Hunter work to new heights (pun absolutely intended), and the Japanese inspiration gives this latest outing a very different, very impressive new sense of style, but without forgetting the series’ roots. Truly, Rise is Monster Hunter at its absolute best. »

Screen Rant 100/100

« This is the game that the Monster Hunter franchise should have been all along. The annoying parts of the experience that were retained due to tradition have finally been stripped away, leaving a polished, enjoyable experience for newcomers that will make long-time fans equally happy. Monster Hunter Rise is Monster Hunter at its finest. »

Gfinity 100/100

« When you consider all of these new additions on top of the solid foundation of Monster Hunter World, what you’re left with is the best Monster Hunter game around. This game is as close to perfect as we’ve had yet, and assuming it gets a lot of post-launch support, we’re in for an incredibly exciting new era of Monster Hunter, and one that brings back some of the bombastic absurdity that World omitted. »

Gamer Escape 100/100

« Monster Hunter Rise thus exceeded every expectation I had. It’s just as, if not more fun than World, and that’s saying a lot. Whether you are a veteran hunter or you’ve never laid eyes on the series before, you owe it to yourself to at least try it. It is absolutely among the best games on the Switch. It’s also a technical achievement for the platform and a system seller. You could wait for the PC version, but why? Play Rise now, and play it again then if you’ve got a gaming PC. A game so nice I’d buy it twice! »

GameSkinny 100/100

« Monster Hunter Rise does more than rise to the occasion: it utterly outdoes itself. Monster Hunter Rise as it stands might be one of the easiest games in the series, but it's also one of the most flexible and ultimately satisfying in each and every regard, and for that, it deserves full marks. »

« What am I playing? The FIRST quest is... Gather materials??? Yeah, no. Hard pass. For a game that is supposed to be about monster hunting, why the hell am I doing a fetch quest? Hard pass. I stopped playing after that. I am NOT interested in fetch quests at all. If I can skip the entire prologue in NBA 2K, why the hell would I be expected to perform menial tasks in a franchise which is supposedly "amazing"? As for the graphics and gameplay, it reminds me of something in between the Wii and Wii U era. NOT impressed here. And in terms of the gameplay, it reminds me of the early to mid 2000s MMOs. I hated that era with a passion, and most people did as well. Also, I do NOT understand who the "pets" are. Why am I naming 3 pets of mine from the start? Who are they, and WHERE did they come from??? I've NEVER seen a game that just vomits 3 familiars in the start ****. Oh, and THE worst part? Where is the ingame map?! No map, no way for you to know where to go, or to know where people even are. If any of this wasn't enough, the dialogue is pure garbage. Why am I greeted with words like, "gratz" (congrats), "buddies", "gnarly", Ace (as a name) etc. What am I... A 5 year old surfer dude? Whoever okayed the script has zero knowledge of writing or editing. To me, it seems that the game was supposed to be in something akin to Feudal Japan mixed in with a fantasy world. The choice of words are horrible, and the vocabulary itself seemed to have been written by a teenager, not an adult. I don't see or understand the hype about this franchise. This was supposed to be my entry point to see if I would possibly enjoy the series. Hell to the no. Thank God I only borrowed this game from my local library. I couldn't be bothered to play more than 10 minutes of this game. »

« Very nice game, sunbreak is a must if you want to play seriously. Downsides: online multiplayer is not very active, poor performance 30 unstable fps in switch 1, locked 30fps in switch 2 with no update. At launch, switch version was good enough, now that ps4/ps5/xbox/pc have their own version, you will enjoy the combat much more in those platforms. »

« Rise is a decent portable game for the Monster Hunter franchise, with a very fun combat system to learn. It comes with call monster designs, based off Japanese folklore, and a lot of variety in combat. On release, the game didn't have too much content like other MH games, but now it's pretty good for a base game. If you want a fun game to play on the go or with friends, this is a good one. »

« My first Monster Hunter that I've played in a "hard core mode" it was MHR. I remember playing during the pandemic and I've easily accomplished 300h during 1 month. Everything in this game works so good. I have nothing to complain at all. »

« Monster Hunter Rise is fast, beautiful, and incredibly fun on the Nintendo Switch. The new Wirebug mechanics add a crazy level of verticality and movement to combat, and riding the Palamute makes traversing the maps feel effortless while speeding up the overall pace. The game is exceptionally well-optimized and runs like a dream. The combat feels more "arcade-like" and punchy compared to previous entries, and the Yokai-inspired monster designs paired with the Japanese art style and immersive soundtrack make the world of Kamura feel unique. The only real downside is that the story is pretty forgettable and serves as a thin excuse to move from hunt to hunt, but for a game like this, the gameplay loop is what matters. I just recently reached the first set of credits after finishing the village quests (which honestly felt like an extended tutorial) and while I already have the Sunbreak expansion, I haven’t reached the point of experiencing that new content yet. If you want a refined, high-action hunting experience, this is definitely worth it. »
