Sorti le 18 juin 2024 sur PlayStation 4 et PlayStation 5, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy est une version remise au goût du jour du titre d'action-aventure développé à l'origine par Traveller's Tales en 2006 et édité ici par Disney Interactive Studios. Ce second opus de la série LEGO Star Wars adapte les événements de la trilogie originale cinématographique, soit les épisodes IV, V et VI, dans un mélange d'aventure et de hack 'n' slash qui avait valu à l'œuvre une note agrégée de 86 sur Metacritic.
Le joueur y incarne plus de cinquante versions LEGO des personnages de la saga, avec la possibilité d'en créer de personnalisés grâce à un éditeur offrant des millions de combinaisons. L'expérience, propulsée par le moteur Nu2 et protégée par SecuROM, intègre les améliorations apportées par rapport à son prédécesseur, notamment une gestion de la caméra revue et un approfondissement des phases de véhicules qu'il est possible de construire, piloter et quitter pour explorer. Cette réédition propose par ailleurs des fonctionnalités modernes telles que l'up-rendering, la fonction retour arrière, la sauvegarde rapide et des filtres vidéo personnalisables. Côté contenu, le jeu inclut les niveaux de boss du premier opus ainsi qu'un mode défi, pour une durée de vie estimée à onze heures pour l'histoire principale et une trentaine d'heures pour en voir le bout.
La presse avait salué le titre à sa sortie initiale. The Sydney Morning Herald qualifiait l'expérience de « wonderful game that rewards experimentation and co-operation », tandis que Times Online soulignait sa flexibilité : « You could play straight through this game in a few hours, or dally with it for days. Therein lies its brilliance. » Du côté des joueurs, un contributeur de Metacritic notait que cette suite améliorait son aîné grâce à ses niveaux et ses cinématiques rejouant la trilogie originale, même si un autre avis rapporté se limitait à une suite de points de suspension.

« This was a Lego game that feels like a sequel that improves from its predecessor, the levels and cutscene reenactment of the original trilogy sure adds a lot of humor even by today's standards, best of all, using the old save extra from your Lego Star wars 1 save I would give bonus points to TT games allowing compatibility with save files between ps2, gamecube, and Xbox, nearly 20 years in the making of a sequel that stood up to its predecessor from its own right. »
