Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - Echoes of Time
Description (IGDB)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time is an installment in the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series. It is the first Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game that allows players to play together online and it allows players who own a Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS to play together at the same time using the Pollux Engine, an Engine created by Square Enix.
Histoire (IGDB)
When a girl in the village falls ill after a birthday party, the Hero has to go in town to get medicine. And then, event after event, gets on a quest that will reveal the history of this village in the forest, of the villagers, of the world around them. At the beginning of the game, the player must create the Hero, by choosing a male or female of one of the four races in the Crystal Chronicles universe: the swift Selkies who can double jump and are efficient archers, the knowledgeable Yukes and their higher magick potency, the strong Lilties for the melee fights, and the skilled Clavats who can do a bit of everything. The game itself consists of adventuring through dungeons, fighting various foes and bosses by using melee or ranged attacks and various spells, and completing some puzzles. In doing so, the player can hire up to three customizable bodyguards to accompany the main character. It is possible to take control of any of these characters at any time in the game. More bodyguards can be created and can be switched in and out of the party. In the main town there is also a Quest Shoppe where only one character can enter and complete various tasks to gain money and rare materials to create new equipment.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« But it's the seamless transitioning of the single-player to the multiplayer (you can hop in and out from one to the other at any save point) that really seals the deal. »
« It's a great game for the DS, and well worth playing. Avoid the Wii version though, I can't really stress that enough. »
« Linking up with DS or Wii is a nice touch, and the ability to host or visit freely gives DS an edge over the console version. It thrives as a portable, pocket title. »
« While there are a few issues that do hold it back, the overall package makes the handheld version of this game the one you should buy. »
« But buyers beware, the best way to play this game is through the DS, so while both the DS and Wii versions go for about $39, the DS version is definitely the better buy. »
« The DS version of Echoes of Time stands on its own pretty well as a single-player experience, but most people are interested in Crystal Chronicles games for the multiplayer. »
« For a DS title, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time sets a high bar for handheld RPG games. Lag-less action, wireless play, and a mind-boggling amount of items and customizable ways to outfit your adventurer are how most online RPGs should be built. With the Wii version, you've got the same good gameplay, just cramped and um, ugly. »
« Echoes of Time is a useless waste of time in Wii. You better expend your money in the NDS version, because this is just a 1:1 port of the handheld that has nothing remarkable at all. We will have to wait till Crystal Bearers comes out to the scene by the end of this year. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« While definitely being a bit of a departure from the typical Final Fantasy formula, Echoes of Time still offers a solid story, combat and magic system, and atmosphere to immerse yourself in. Even it's a little on the shorter side, there's plenty here to love. Like the four playable classes, impressive repertoire of weapons and armour, and a surprisingly touching ending. Just do yourself a favour and play the DS version. »
« Another off-shoot from the Final Fantasy family tree, this is an attempt to blend RPG with platform style arcade adventure and it works pretty well. Yet another very nice looking game with side quests that play like mini-games that are more Crash Bandicoot than Zelda. Again hardcore RPG enthusiasts will probably be dismayed at its diluted form but it's pretty good fun for those of us who aren't too precious about our adventuring. »
« worth it and glad to play this game again. so much memories and nostalgia within this spin off game in the series. »
« Did they even give a second look at the god awful layout and controls of this game? Finally Fantasy has been crap since 10 when it caved into the casual losers who **** at turn-based and want that horrible Kingdom Hearts style, instead. Much less thought and a lot more camera problems; sounds like a good idea to me Square...this is why I won’t be buying the 7 remake. Stupid games ruined what used to be REAL RPGs. »
« This is probably one of the best Crystal Chronicles entries. The graphics and mechanics are good, and the story pulls you forward pretty well, even if some points are rather predictable yet unavoidable. The battles are usually pretty balanced, but it's always better to at least have an AI team back you up as soon as you can. My major gripe with the AI is that it will follow who you're playing as at any given moment, making team puzzles difficult as they won't stay in place after you switch characters. It's just unfortunate that you will probably not find any online co-op or help in this game so long after its initial release. Art: 9 Music: 9 Story: 7 Gameplay: 7 »
