Description (IGDB)

Call of Duty is a first-person shooter set during World War II, developed by Infinity Ward using a modified id Tech 3 engine. The single-player campaign spans three separate perspectives, with the player controlling American, British, and Soviet soldiers across the European theater. Gameplay emphasizes squad-based combat with AI-controlled allies who support the player during missions, making use of authentic period firearms, iron sight aiming, and a health point system with medkits.

Histoire (IGDB)

The American campaign follows Private Martin of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment from basic training at Camp Toccoa through the chaos of the Normandy airdrops on D-Day. Scattered from his unit, Martin fights alongside whatever soldiers he can find to secure towns, silence German artillery threatening Utah Beach, and rescue captured British officers before facing German armor during the Battle of the Bulge. The British campaign puts Sergeant Jack Evans in a Horsa glider during the assault on Pegasus Bridge, then follows his transfer to the SAS for sabotage missions deep behind enemy lines, including the destruction of a restored dam and an infiltration of the battleship Tirpitz. The Soviet campaign traces Corporal Voronin from the desperate river crossing at Stalingrad, where Soviet officers execute soldiers who retreat, through the recapture of a key apartment building, and eventually forward to 1945 where he commands a tank during the advance on Berlin and storms the Reichstag to raise the victory banner.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 promises more 'grounded' cosmetics, and I feel like I've heard this before

In recent years, Call of Duty has been suffering from what I lamented last year to be a severe case of Fortnitification—you know, just about every game you know and love amalgamating and morphing into a multimedia glob where some bozo from a TV show can gun down a real-life celebrity and then proceed to be revived by their teammate donning the skin of some anime protagonist... Microsoft just made Game Pass cheaper, and it's all thanks to Call of Duty

Microsoft has announced that, effective today, it will be cutting the price of Game Pass, following a report last week that fledgling gaming division CEO Asha Sharma believed that it had become "too expensive" for players. However, the monkey's paw has curled for Call of Duty players, as future releases from the iconic franchise will no longer be coming to the subscription service at launch. Play Magazine 100/100

« An extraordinary game that any action fan will go nuts over. Everything from the graphics to the sound to the action itself, Infinity Ward and Activision have taken the genre to an all-new level and it's truly something special. [Dec 2003, p.88] »

CPUGamer 100/100

« The most realistic war games I have ever played. Not only are the graphics stunning, the sound effects, music, dependence on teammates, weapons, and the overall feel of the game is amazing. »

G4 TV 100/100

« It has it all: harrowing missions, top-notch graphics and special effects, and convincing audio and voice acting. Few games in this genre approach the level of polish and design seen here. »

Electric Playground 100/100

« Call of Duty can be summed up in one word. Intense. Yes, lots of shooters have provided many, many hours of intense situations before but none, including crowded games like "Battlefield 1942," have ever made me feel the insignificance and fear a soldier must feel while watching the slaughter of hundreds of his countrymen. »

GamePro 100/100

« Packs the power to astonish with its next-level A.I., absorbing mission design, and mesmerizing presentation. »

Gamers' Temple 98/100

« No game puts you closer to being on a field of battle in World War II than Call of Duty. »

GameBiz 97/100

« The most intensive war action first person shooter combat title yet. I have not played a single-player experience that is as immersive and intense as the one in Call of Duty. »

Game Chronicles 97/100

« This is the online game of 2003 with a single player experience that will be talked about and used to measure all future FPS military games for a long time to come. »

« Czy poczułem zew obowiązku? Być może. Ale zdecydowanie zmiażdżyło mnie pod Stalingradem. A może na tamie. Albo okręcie wojennym. Potężny wąs +1 »

« Call Of Duty Cannibal Studio I started playing Call of Duty back on the PS2 with COD: Finest Hour. Ever since I’ve played almost every call of duty that followed except for those original ones on pc. I was always curious how the very first CoD looked and felt since it came from former MoH devs which ultimately kind of killed the franchise. Before It Became Silly I was looking forward to go back in time where CoD was still serious and didn’t have burning men or Nicki Minaj sliding around. And damn does this game feel like MoH but at the same time a whole lot better. I think back in 2003 when this game came out, people must have been blown away by the graphics and gameplay. Even to this day this game feels smooth and looks pretty good. However, this is coming from someone who plays a lot of older games and always gets a dopamine boost when nostalgia hits .Do Not Fix What Is Not Broken This campaign took place over 3 ‘chapters’ with one being the Americans, the British and finally the soviets. The American and British campaign were something we were used to and didn’t really do much different from MoH but were still fun nonetheless. But the game really shined with the soviet campaign, going into battle with only 5 bullets and no gun all the while your fellow comrades are being mowed down beside you. It is also here that they show the grittier reality by shooting their own people if they fall back Fus-Ro-Dah! Comrade The controls are simple enough, feel familiar and are responsive. The leaning mechanic is also a very nice feature especially when you play on Veteran. The enemy does still have the laser accuracy at times but not all the time, you can really get by with taking your time and checking your corners like Capt. Price once said. Your fellow soldiers do a decent job in killing enemies but most of the time they block your way or even throw grenades from enemies right back at you which is very annoying. Conclusion I was a great time to go back in time and see where the series started. But if you would have told me back in 2003 that this franchise would have jetpacks, people sliding all over and Snoop Dogg, I would’ve never believed you and makes me kind of sad they took the route they are on now... However, clearing out an apartment building with a PPSH never gets old and I had an amazing time playing this game.
