Conçu sur Unreal Engine 3, ce titre d'action-aventure mêlant tir, hack'n'slash et beat'em up se présente comme un complément direct à Batman: Arkham Origins. Il propose une expérience en 2,5D à défilement horizontal qui prolonge l'intrigue de la version console tout en dévoilant davantage le passé du Chevalier Noir.
Le gameplay reprend les piliers de la série en les adaptant à la perspective latérale : infiltration, combats fluides et utilisation de l'arsenal de gadgets emblématique. Cette édition Deluxe enrichit le contenu original avec de nouvelles cartes, des rencontres d'ennemis supplémentaires, des niveaux de difficulté additionnels, de nouveaux Batcostumes et des graphismes retravaillés.
Côté réception, le jeu affiche une note agrégée de 60,30. La presse spécialisée a offert un accueil mitigé mais nuancé : Digital Chumps le juge comme « une excellente sortie pour ceux qui apprécient les jeux Arkham mais n'ont pas joué à Blackgate pour une raison ou une autre », tandis que Vandal note qu'il « s'éloigne assez des épisodes principaux, mais si vous cherchez un jeu de type metroidvania, avec de bonnes phases d'exploration et d'énigmes, c'est un choix intéressant ». Du côté des joueurs, les avis divergent : certains saluent le design des personnages, les cinématiques, les combats de boss et les phases d'infiltration, tout en regrettant le reste du contenu et une durée de vie jugée courte ; d'autres, plus sévères, le qualifient de « pire jeu Arkham » et affirment n'avoir pas pu le terminer.
