The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

« The best fantasy RPG on Xbox 360. The awesome atmosphere, the epic and adult storyline, the beautiful graphics and the clever gameplay are enough to turn this masterpiece into a must buy. »
« Porting such a colossal game as The Witcher 2 on the 360 was no easy task. CD Projekt rose to the challenge nonetheless and succeeded. Even though it's less detailed and delicate than on the PC, the 360 port remains visually stunning. The game itself is as good as ever, better even, with its buffed up third act and revised endings. Unmissable for any RPG fan. »
« The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition is one of the most engaging and immersive games of this console generation, drawing players into a complex narrative, full of character, an excellent script and a rich gaming environment. »
« Despite the constant worry of carrying too much loot around, and even with some small interface issues, The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition is a marvelous game. It's more focused and has a vastly superior combat model than Skyrim, is more realized and contains better writing than Dragon Age, and treats sex like a mature theme and not a juvenile goal. It's not to be missed. »
« This is simply one of the most singular and enthralling RPG experiences in years, and it should be played by pretty much anyone willing to hold a controller. »
« A perfect conversion of the extraordinary RPG didn't lose any of its appeal and gamepad controls added an even better feel. [May 2012] »
« The Witcher 2 is a highly recommended purchase for those seeking a mature and visceral role-playing experience. »
« The Witcher 2 looks great, plays great, and is a role-playing adventure for the ages. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« The Witcher 2 is a sizeable step down from the first, but still worth playing if you care about the story. The gameplay broadly is overly restrictive, with too many on-rails sections limiting player expression. The combat is terrible, removing the three styles and consistent attacks of the first game and replacing them with uninspired light and heavy attacks. The true issue lies with the unpredictable animation Geralt will commit to upon pressing an attack button. Some are multi-hits, or vary wildly in speed and range. This makes just controlling your character a roll of the die. Additionally, movement is unresponsive and combat mechanics are generally unimpressive. By far the worst issue with the gameplay, though, is the changes to alchemy. In the first game, you could only brew potions while meditating at a campfire, but they were freely drank at any time. The Witcher 2 forces Geralt to meditate before consuming potions as well, which prevent you from downing them during combat. This reduces the usefulness of alchemy while increasing the tedium. Now, if you want to have a basic healing potion active during a battle, you must drink it right before, as these potions now also have reduced duration (which decays during cutscenes for whatever reason). The writing also falters compared to the first game. Both have Geralt pick between two factions (although the first allowed a neutral path). The Scoia'tael is present in both, and their opposition in the first game is The Order, while in the second it is the Blue Stripes. The first game lets you interact peacefully with both factions before forcing you to choose, allowing both to make their case and humanize themselves. On the other hand, the second seems to do all it can to make the player sympathize with the Blue Stripes over the Scoia'tael. Not only are the Scoia'tael of the second game more violent, they also take every chance they get to try to kill Geralt, even if he helps them, and even if you ported a save file from the first game in which you helped them win a war! If you do, against all odds, pick the Scoia'tael route, you get to have a singular conversation with Iorveth, the leader about your previous alignment. Where the writing does succeed is in Geralt's personal journey and his relationships with other characters, such as Iorveth himself. Uncovering Geralt's old memories is consistently engaging, and your final confrontation with Letho was by far my favourite story moment in either game. Overall, The Witcher 2 is worth playing for fans of the other games and books for the story, but a sub-par RPG which fails to live up to its predecessor. »
« I wanted to finish this game but I couldn't. If you want to play it definitely get it on PC. On xbox one it runs on 30 fps. Normally that ain't that bad but combined with the not so great graphics it's awful. Not to mention the looooooong loading times and there are LOTS of them in this game. You want to enter or exit a building? Just watch 2-3 seconds of black screen! You want to switch between map/quests/inventory/skill? Just watch 0.5 seconds of black screen! Aside this the combat is very clunky. Idk if it is a skill issue or the game is just not balanced good. I have beaten the 3rd game and I didn't have a problem in it with the combat. Even on easy mode I die multiple times, cause enemies can easily swarm you and you can only try to dodge, but they will eventually get you. The spells can help, but I would prefer if I didn't have to use them that much. Enemies can hit you sometimes even if you are attacking them which is stupid. In the beginning the story is easy to follow, but in chapter 2 it gets so confusing, you have to remember 15 people and what they did and I feel very overwhelmed. On some side quests you don't even get a waypoint so you have to look up where to go (I guess this is more realistic but worse for the gameplay) Also Dandelion is super annoying and cringe. This guy only want to sleep with women but at the same time is super zesty. In the books and the Witcher 3 he is a more complex character and actually likeable. In conclusion if you want to try the game get it on PC. If you just care about the story you can just watch a youtube video about it :) »
« Beginning of a legend. The game is very solid and offers a lot of choices that shape your entire gameplay. A choice in 1st act completely(location,NPC, etc) changes how the next 3 acts look like »
« [SPOILER ALERT: This review contains spoilers.] »
« The story is pretty solid, and the combat is a lot better than in Witcher 1. But something feels off for me in this game I didn’t have as much fun as I did in Witcher 1 or 3, and I don't know why. I still love this game, though. »
« Completed in 2025 for the first time. Nice visuals, fine story, but I'd have appreciated more freedom. Still a worthy entry in the series. »
