The Last Faith, développé par Kumi Souls Games et édité par Playstack, est sorti le 15 novembre 2023 sur PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 et 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One et Xbox Series X|S. Ce jeu d'aventure et de rôle indépendant, mêlant plateforme, combat et hack 'n' slash, se présente comme un metroidvania d'exploration en side-scrolling aux thèmes horrifiques et gothiques. Le joueur incarne Eryk, qui se réveille sans souvenir dans un monde ravagé régi depuis des siècles par une ancienne religion, et doit subvertir les mots d'une prophétie cachée pour découvrir la vérité derrière ce monde corrompu et décadent, tout en menant une course contre le temps puisque son esprit se détériore. Souvent décrit comme l'alliance perfide d'un metroidvania et d'un soulslike, le titre repose sur des combats précis et impitoyables avec de nombreuses exécutions personnalisées, et propose une exploration non linéaire où l'on obtient de nouveaux objets, compétences, armes et sorts débloquant de nouvelles routes, au travers d'un arsenal de mêlée, de sorts d'arcane et d'armes à distance. Le pixel art et la bande-son immersive subliment des paysages gothiques tels que des montagnes enneigées et des châteaux au clair de lune. Un DLC gratuit intitulé Awakened Ancients et une mise à jour ultérieure ont ajouté du contenu et des améliorations de qualité de vie. Réalisé sous Unity, le jeu affiche un temps de completion de 16 heures et demie pour l'histoire principale et 24 heures en mode completionniste, pour un prix de 26,99 euros. La presse a salué un metroidvania élevé à de nouveaux sommets par sa conception malgré un défi élevé, tandis que certains joueurs regrettent un lore parfois trop inspiré de Bloodborne et Castlevania ou une histoire moyenne, tout en reconnaissant un gameplay amusant. Le titre obtient un score de 72 sur Metacritic et de 73 sur OpenCritic.
