The Cycle, développé et publié par Yager Development, est sorti le 12 septembre 2019 sur PC (Microsoft Windows) sous Unreal Engine 4. Ce jeu de tir place le joueur dans la peau d'un prospecteur résidant sur Prospect Station, en orbite autour de la planète instable Fortuna III, où il est envoyé en mission par des factions pour récupérer des ressources précieuses dans un environnement hostile mêlant affrontements entre joueurs et menaces alien, comme l'indique sa définition de « Competitive Quest Shooter » ou PvEvP. Trois zones étaient disponibles, à savoir Bright Sands, Crescent Falls et l'île de Tharis accessible depuis la saison 2, et le titre a connu l'arrivée d'une saison 3 avant la fermeture définitive de The Cycle: Frontier le 27 septembre 2023.
L'accueil des joueurs s'est révélé contrasté. Sur Metacritic, certains déplorent un gameplay jugé terrible et des quêtes ridicules, ne relevant que les graphismes comme point positif, tandis que des avis positifs sur Steam évoquent un jeu sympa malgré des bugs persistants et une spatialisation sonore parfois hasardeuse, ou regrettent sa fermeture en soulignant un manque de contenu comme des armes ou ennemis supplémentaires. L'aggregate rating du titre s'établit à 66,14.

« They ruined their own game, they want to be Escape from tarkov now, but with so much less going on for it. Theyre trying to reuse all their content from their previous version of this game, which makes it buggy, broken and incredibly frustrating. You die from brushing against walls, from dropping 20cm, from glitching through or getting stuck in stones or even bushes. You spawn in one side of the map, have to travel in ultra slowmotion to the other side all while your footsteps are so loud that the only thing you are sure to extract with, is PTSD. Frustrating, broken and pathetic to sum it up. Sad to see an otherwise fun and polished game get thrown into the toilet from a developer who has no idea what their players want, and obviously do not care. Insulting and discarding thousands of fans for the first game, to try and mimic a game that is allready made several times before, and each time much better than this pathetic attempt. »

« Dead game, with nice mechanics. No players, no lobby, waiting around one hour for the game. The game was really promising two years ago, I feel very enjoyed when I see the changes. But lack of players forced me to uninstall and re-start looking for another game. Sorry, I'm not gonna back again. gg no re. »

« I don't know what many of the reviews here are complaining about. This game is NOT "pay to win", and has a pretty diverse progression scheme. You get matched out of your level sometimes because the game doesn't have enough players at times. The gameplay is fun, and it's a fresh take on the overdone Battle Royale format. Definitely will continue playing, the art of the game is great and the gameplay is fun and challenging in new and interesting ways. »
