In the late 1970s, the charismatic Isaac and Rebecca Walker lead the Collective Justice Mission. Labeled radicals and feeling persecuted by the US government, they relocate their followers to the one place they believe they can create a socialist utopia: the jungles of South America. There they build Freedom Town. But relatives left behind in the US become worried: what exactly is going on at this compound in the jungle?

On ne force jamais personne à rejoindre une secte. Elle nous accueille. Elle nous comprend. Elle nous entoure jusqu'à ce que les mots deviennent plus qu'une vérité, jusqu'à ce qu'ils deviennent qui l'on est.
À la fin des années 70, les charismatiques Isaac et Rebecca Walker se mirent à la tête de la Mission pour la justice collective. Considérés comme radicaux, ils se sentirent persécutés par le gouvernement américain et décidèrent d'envoyer leurs partisans là où ils pensaient pouvoir créer une utopie socialiste : les jungles d'Amérique du Sud. C'est là qu'ils construisirent la ville de Freedom Town. Mais les familles des partisans restées aux États-Unis étaient inquiètes : « Que se passait-il exactement au sein de cette structure dans la jungle ? »
Vous incarnez Vic, un ancien officier de police qui s'est introduit à Freedom Town pour voir comment va Alex, son neveu. Que vous choisissiez la discrétion ou la violence, vous devez vous infiltrer dans la communauté, découvrir ce qu'il s'y passe et retrouver votre neveu avant qu'il ne soit trop tard.
Quelle fin obtiendrez-vous ? Arriverez-vous à sortir Alex de là, qu'il veuille vous suivre ou non ? Défierez-vous les dirigeants de la secte ? Rejoindrez-vous la secte ?
Débloquez toutes les fins pour chaque scénario en jouant de façon variée ou en changeant de choix.
De nombreuses façons de jouer : Évitez de vous faire remarquer en éliminant les gardes et les civils de façon non létale ou en tuant tous ceux qui se mettront sur votre chemin.
Interrogez les personnes qui vivent à Freedom Town et cherchez des indices. Des documents et des lettres éparpillés dans le campement vous révéleront la véritable nature de la communauté.
Jeu entièrement doublé avec les voix anglaises d'Ellen McLain (plus connue pour avoir doublé GLaDOS dans Portal) et de John Patrick Lowrie (le sniper dans Team Fortress 2) qui donnent vie aux gourous Rebecca et Isaac Walker.
À quel point les Walker sont-ils dangereux ? Jusqu'où irez-vous pour découvrir la vérité et sauver Alex ? Les choses auraient-elles pu se passer autrement ?

Je cherchais un jeu narratif très relax pour du fin de journée fort chargée... hé bien je ne l'ai pas vraiment trouvé ici ! Mais ça vaut le détour. C'est un jeu narratif très intéressant, bien écrit (et "écrit" plusieurs fois en plus), mais ... c'est...
J'ai beaucoup aimé ce jeu, je trouve l'ambiance formidable, à la fois paisible mais assez louche, le gameplay est simple mais franchement c'est amusant de recommencer le jeu pour avoir les succès et découvrir toutes les histoires et secret cachés....

« Discovering the secrets of the Freedom Town cult, who has power and influence where, as well as the inner workings of the leadership are the best parts of The Church In The Darkness. That combines with excellent stealth gameplay, a dynamic and engaging scenario-based narrative, and some excellent characters with great voice acting to create a memorable and unique experience. An experience that is only held back by a few technical issues and some missing quality of life features. »
« The Church in the Darkness is a smart stealth game that impressively warps to reflect your actions. It lets you get in and break out as you see fit. While failure still feels like failure, success is sweet and varied. Once it gets a hold of you, you may not want to break out, at all. »
