Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin

« Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is a bold genre fusion that pays off with superb farming and combat systems plus a cast of characters you'll remember for a long time to come. Far from skimping on one part or another, Sakuna pays lavish attention to both of its halves and adds a group of endearing, solidly realized characters on top. »
« Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is a genuine cultural artefact. It never forgets the need to be entertaining and engaging, but every facet of the game is invested in communicating the Japanese cultural perspective on the world, from how we see the divine, to the respect that we should hold for the very staples that sustain us. This is a game that transcends the conventional expectations of video games, to deliver something much grander and more inherently valuable than passive entertainment to consume. »
« This game is the perfect mix of an RPG, 2D Platformer and farming simulator that you can find. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin looks and sounds great and has a great story that will make you care about all the characters. »
« It turns out the farming might be my favorite part of Sakuna: Of Rice & Ruin, though, despite my issues with fertilizer. I didn’t think a video game could give me such an understanding and appreciation of rice farming, but this game did. Rice farming is as much an art as a science, it’s beautiful, and it’s calming. Sakuna and I were both learning the value of hard work and an appreciation for doing it well. Now if only I could catch more frogs... »
« The realistic, in depth elements of rice farming combined with honing fighting skills plus surprising character revelations and development make Sakuna of Rice and Ruin a magnificent game. Sakuna's personal growth is a pleasure to watch. Her reason for living is tested to the limit, she learns to serve others rather than herself, and has to make a sacrifice that she would not have made if faced with the same decision at the start of the game. The balanced emphasis on farming and fighting provides a great variety of tasks to undertake, providing dozens of hours of fun. The delay in the game's original planned release was worth the wait. »
« Sakuna unfolds as an original action J-RPG, that feels different and it's fun. if you connect with it, you'll find that it's hard to put it aside, even if it can fail in grind and repetition, everything it's well dosed and executed, without the usual problems found on other Nintendo Switch ports. A superb RPG surprise to finish this crazy year. »
« Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin has a beautiful story with an atmosphere typical of Studio Ghibli and offers a gameplay that reminds us of what we can find in Rune Factory, perfectly mixing exploration and resource management to result in a very good game. »
« In the end, Sakuna left me aglow with a warm nostalgia reminiscent of PlayStation 2 favourites like Okami, Odin Sphere, or Dark Cloud. Sakuna is a solid title with a lot of fun to be had. It has ambition, charm, and a whole myriad of interlocking systems to dive into. Despite some tedium in the early game and a dearth of content in the late game, the overall package is strong. The rhythm of the gameplay loop never loses its ability to calm and easily leads to a state of video game zen. One part beat ’em up RPG and one part farming sim, Sakuna truly excels in how well it blends these two genres. As far as I am concerned, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is worth playing not just for those interested in either genre, but for people who want a taste of what indie titles can be. »

« This game is a pretty interesting mix of a rice farming game and a 2D action **** to break down this gameplay loop you explore a map with a order of ecclesia style world map and explore certain areas to increase your rank to go to more parts of the **** other half of this game is a rice farming game which has far more indepth gameplay mechanics then most games in this genre.I tried to get behind it but I was unable to figure it out and this is required if you want to play the game because player strength is tied to good rice harvests.Interesting game I just wish rice growing was explained better. »
« Despite even getting an anime adaptation, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is still one of the most underappreciated video games I have ever played. This game combines fast-paced 2D platforming and hack-and-slash gameplay with a slice of life styled rice farming simulator. While it may not be to everybody's tastes, the rice farming mechanic is extremely in-depth and seems to have a lot of research put into maintaining its authenticity. As you progress through seasons and time, your knowledge of farming and harvesting will increase, giving you a ton of systems to work with. Your rice farming has an effect on the gameplay as well, which is super fast-paced and utilizes a combination of melee weapons (your farming tools) and your divine raiment, which acts as a grapple beam and a way to combo enemies. This game also sports tons of other systems that help aid exploration, like a day/night cycle, a level system, and a plethora of special moves. Couple that with the game's amazing artstyle and design and a touching story about found family, and Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin became one of the most unique and memorable games ever. One of the best parts of the game is just the family chilling at the table and eating food. The vibes of this game are absolutely immaculate. If there is one complaint I have is that the PC version's controls are absolutely terrible, but my trusty wireless controller luckily solves everything. Please do yourself a favor and play this game »
« Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin masterfully combines 2D action with a 3D farming simulation. The 2D action gameplay is highly enjoyable, offering a variety of unique moves and styles. The farming simulation, while simple, is both interesting and distinctive, adding a unique layer to the overall experience. »
« Fantástico. Perfeito como jogo de plataforma 2D e as mecânicas de cultivo de arroz como forma de evoluir a personagem. Super divertido. Personagens carismáticos. Excelente arte gráfica. Fiquei travado no jogo poucas vezes, mas um guia me ajudou a ver o que fazer e geralmente era uma área em que não tinha visto adequadamente no mapa. Esse jogo merece uma chance e mais divulgação. »
« I think my main problem with this game is that it is so genre specific. I like East Asian games, farming and action RPG's but not side scrollers. Even ticking most of my boxes it misses the mark for me. It is graphically very nice and everything is very nicely done. That is where my problem lies is that barring the music it's all just nice and not great. Music is pretty damn good though. I'm early doors with this game and it does have a pretty addictive loop but it isn't exciting enough for me. This is really a game that any review score from 0-10 is fair because I imagine for some people it will be nothing short of wasted money and for others it will be a masterpiece. There is a lot to like here. The main thing that delayed me buying was the bratty character, as I thought she'd get on my nerves but in reality the characters aren't too bad. If you like the look of it then give it a try because it is both unique and likeable. It's not the most expensive game, so worth taking a chance. I feel kind of bad giving it a 6 because it hasn't got glaring issues, it just wasn't quite for me and it does look and sound great. »
« A very charming game, but the double tap to dodge is the stupidest ****, and its not like we are lacking buttons. Heck we have 2 shoulder buttons just sitting there doing nothing. Has some minor annoyances in combat, but overall, I look forward to a sequel. Very charming indeed. »
« Loved the farm minigames, the side platform gameplay, amazing ️ »
« A very endearing and fun game. It's also surprisingly rewarding and informative. If you love Okami and farming games, you HAVE to play this. »
