Pokémon Y, développé par Game Freak et édité par The Pokémon Company et Nintendo, est sorti le 12 octobre 2013 sur Nintendo 3DS. Ce jeu mêle aventure, jeu de rôle et stratégie au tour par tour, et plonge le joueur dans la région de Kalos, caractérisée par de beaux ciels et des forêts à explorer. Au fil de l'aventure, il est possible de rejoindre Lumiose City, la cité centrale de la région, une métropole animée où les boutiques attirent de nombreux visiteurs et d'où s'étendent plusieurs routes depuis la tour emblématique de son centre.
L'accueil critique a été favorable, avec une note moyenne agrégée de 85,03. Gameblog.fr a ainsi qualifié le titre de version parfaite rêvée dix-sept ans plus tôt, tandis que Pocket Gamer UK a salué une véritable évolution de la série et l'un de ses opus les plus importants et excitants. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic ont toutefois relevé une amélioration visuelle notable sans renouveau majeur du gameplay, et d'autres ont exprimé avec le temps une déception quant à la difficulté et au scénario, allant jusqu'à classer le jeu parmi les plus détestés de la franchise.

« Pokemon X & Y feel like a huge visual upgrade for the series, but not a huge gameplay one. Kalos is a beautiful region, and seeing Pokemon in full 3D for the first time was genuinely impressive, but underneath that presentation, the game feels a bit too safe. The adventure is very linear, and the difficulty is extremely low. You’re constantly being guided from one point to the next, and it rarely feels like the game is challenging you in any meaningful way. Even major battles go down quickly if you have a basic understanding of type matchups. Mega Evolution is the standout addition here. It added a lot of excitement to battles and made certain Pokemon feel much more impactful, even if it was later underused in future games. Outside of that, though, Kalos doesn’t do much to stand out in terms of story or ****’s a visually strong entry with some cool ideas, but it doesn’t fully take advantage of the leap to a new generation of hardware. »

« the only reason this games has a rating higher than 5 is because of the 3d. i believe that if this game was in 2d, it would've gotten a 30-50 due to bland story, unlikeable designs, and an overall lack-luster experience. and the regional gimmick? its bland too. megas are just temporary boosts of power that make your pokemon look odd. during my playthrough, i have only used megas once, due to being required to. there is no reason to play this game over sun/moon or ultra sun/moon. »
