Description (IGDB)

Guild Wars 2 is an online role-playing game with fast-paced action combat, a rich and detailed universe of stories, awe-inspiring landscapes to explore, two challenging player vs. player modes, and no subscription fees!

Histoire (IGDB)

Your story begins the moment you bring your character to life. When you create your character, you’ll choose from a range of biographical options that reflect their personality, history, and how they see the world. This biography will set you down a story path, which offers you choices to make. Your decisions will take the story in different directions. The race you choose for your character determines which of the five massive home cities they’ll begin their story in. Your personal story will guide you through private, instanced chapters that explore your character’s life and adventures as they shape their own destiny. If you need a little help, you can always invite friends along to experience your personal story with you. As “guest stars,” these players can help you, but it’s still your story, and key decisions are yours to make Guild Wars 2 provides players both the social, fully interactive feeling of a multiplayer game as well as the customized, choice-based story of a role-playing game. Whether the stakes are epic or personal, we want players to experience their own story within Tyria. We’ve brought to life a massive world of events, storylines, and characters—all we need is you.

WvW War Score: Beta 2 Results and What's Next

Hello, Tyrians!Throughout this year, the Competitive team has been running beta tests to improve how scoring works in World vs. World (WvW). The focus of the betas has been to shift score generation toward tangible player actions like sieging, capturing objectives, and killing players while moving away from passive mechanics like owning objectives over time that can happen whether players are involved or not. After the first beta, we shared our findings in a retrospective posted on our forums. Today, we're here to discuss our feedback and changes based on the second War Score beta we ran during the matchup in May. This beta included new placement-based match rewards, a series of scoring adjustments, and the addition of points awarded for upgrading objectives.Balancing Active and Passive Play While the first beta started with zero passively gained points aside from supply deliveries, we agreed with players that defending objectives was not adequately rewarding. In response, we adjusted to a good mix of score accrual from holding objectives that still encouraged interaction from enemy teams. Some points were added back to holding tier 3 objectives, but a larger number of points were added to objective tier-ups. This created contention that players could expect and play around instead of having all objectives constantly trickling points. So how was the balance? After fixing some extreme outliers—dolyak’s deliveries, for instance—we landed on a much healthier spread in Beta 2 compared to Beta 1:Objective captures resulted in roughly 30% of all War Score generated.Player combat was about 25% of all War Score generated.Progress ticks accounted for 5% of the total, but combined with upgrades, holding objectives jumps to 15%.The single largest source of War Score generation was keep captures followed closely by player kills. For reference, the score breakdown for normal gameplay outside of the betas is roughly 40% player combat and 35% passive objective ticks with objective assaults being only 9% of the total score generation.Adjustments for Beta 3Dolyak deliveries are still on the watchlist. Supply is the lifeblood of WvW, so we're very hesitant to remove scoring from dolyaks entirely even if they do provide a challenge for balancing passive score generation. We will continue to adjust their point value. Additionally, while guard kills do add some flavor with a low barrier to interaction, their total score value outweighs their mechanical contribution to the game mode, so they will no longer reward War Score in Beta 3. One mechanic in the beta that hasn't had much attention is scaling score based on player counts. The intent was to encourage player congregation, but the system has been overly complex to balance and not easily understood. Plus, the majority of points being scored were coming from objectives that already had naturally incrementing point values. Therefore, for Beta 3, we will be removing player count and objective type/tier scaling multipliers for simplicity, though the capability will still be there if we want to bring it back. Beta 3 will include the return of placement-based match rewards, placement-based skirmish rewards, more balance changes, and boosted points for defensive player kills. For defensive actions, smaller areas around objectives will be used instead of the entire sector.Another exciting new feature to look forward to is an in-game breakdown of War Score sources. We believe that if there are rewards attached to winning, players deserve more insight into what results in victory and the ability to compare against opponents. We're looking forward to your feedback on these additions! What's Next for WvW?At the end of the War Score betas, we're going to have new tech that we can leverage, regardless of whether we permanently adopt the adjusted scoring paradigms or not. This would include keeping the new in-game match scoring breakdown and placement-based rewards locked in to continue incentivizing players to care about scoring. Lastly, don't forget we're also developing a new WvW borderlands map alongside the community. For a refresher on that and our upcoming WvW initiatives, here's a recap of what our Game Director, Josh Davis, spoke about in June: Beta 3 will begin in the middle of a matchup, so we want to make you aware in advance.  We're looking forward to hearing your feedback about our latest changes to War Score when you get to experience it in WvW during Beta 3 running from August 11 until September 4. We'll see you in the Mists!

Eurogamer Italy 100/100

« An explorative PvE packed with dynamic events, PvP competitive challenges, a new crafting system and many more innovations make Guild Wars 2 an MMO for everyone, from casual to hardcore gamers. Choose your character and join the battle alongside with your friends: it's free! »

G4 TV 100/100

« More than anything, however, I have to say that Guild Wars 2 is just fresh. It's new, it's innovative and more than anything, it's a welcome change for fans that may want something different. »

AtomicGamer 100/100

« There are still many annoying or silly things we've seen in the last decade-plus worth of MMOs that Guild Wars 2 didn't fix, but ArenaNet's efforts so far have delivered a huge range of disruptive changes that should pique the interest of any dedicated player. »

Digital Spy 100/100

« In closing, Guild Wars 2 is a staggeringly ambitious project that makes a bold statement about the future of the MMORPG. It is living proof that a game of this manner can thrive outside of the subscription business model and the genre's established conventions. »

Quarter to Three 100/100

« I can count on two hands the games I've loved as much as I now love Guild Wars 2. This isn't just a great example of the genre and arguably the Second Coming of MMOs. It isn't even just one of the best games I've ever played. This is what happens when a group of talented, smart, dedicated, imaginative, bold, consumer-friendly creators get together and spend years solving problems and making something wonderful. »

Gamer.nl 100/100

« Guild Wars 2 does what MMOs have been promising for years: it provides players with a dynamic virtual world filled with discovery, adventure and cooperation. The game combines the unpredictability of hardcore sandbox games like EVE and Asheron's Call with the accessibility and fun of World of Warcraft. After years of EverQuest clones the genre finally makes a great leap forward. »

Eurogamer Germany 100/100

« So, is Guild Wars 2 the MMO messiah everyone is waiting for? Maybe not. What it is, though, is the first MMO in years that really does the "massively multiplayer" part justice. This is a gigantic, sprawling world for explorers, with countless wonderful stories and characters, all backed by a gameplay concept that treats all players as equals. And that's just the basis of what Guild Wars 2 is. »

Digital Chumps 98/100

« This game is awesome to play and will add hours upon hours of fun for any type of player casual or hardcore. »

Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)

LeavingOpinion 10/10

« There is nothing i have problem in this game. Could be more chill build with less buttons smash but its just private comment. For company's approach its safe to give 10. »

Sulaiz 8/10

« A perfect game in every sense of the word, from its graphics and music to its genius level design. It offers the best mount experience and combat system in any MMO. Its only flaw is the UI, which feels very dated and repetitive I really hope they update »

Wargo 10/10

« Great gameplay. Great Story. PvP, PvE, WvW, Raiding. Introduced lots of revolutionary mechanics. Yearly new content for low prices. Love this Game. »

dotamcqueen 9/10

« 抛开代理和网游层面的因素,站在单机的角度上,也是非常优秀的rpg。 极其精妙的地图是一把双刃剑,史诗般的剧情加上中配,体验真的很赞。 即使弃坑许久了,有些npc都还留有深刻的印象。 »

themangoose 5/10

« Could have been the greatest MMO of all time, but ****. They wouldn't put money into development, onlygemstore items. They went P2W on PvE. You can purchase crafting mats, unlocks, progression, which made them make everyone who doesn't pay her stuck witha horrible grind. Now the old PvP director is over the wholegame. He was a jerk when he did that and only balanced (overpowered) his favorite class of engineer. It's obvious he doesn't care about PvE either. »

noobhammer 0/10

« -anet essentially added a sub fee to this game for pve expansions ($25/quarter year) -pve is atrocious imo and has bad rewards and itemization (have fun playing barbie dress up horizontally, and running fetch quests, or map completing busy work, inbetween your boring scripted unskippable single player story instance content) -pvp is the worst of any competitive game ive ever played (**** cuz gw1 had legendary pvp and i useto be a fanboy of anets for decades) -mods spend more resources policing speech than improving pvp -i will never buy another anet game again, and i stopped buying the expansions. i wont even be buying gw3 when it drops. -anet truly killed the amazing pvp the series once had; RA, GvG, AB, HA, etc) meta is imba, the queue is abused, theres no variety everything sameish even builds, conquest is a ****, empty promises for a decade+, literally everything about pvp leaves the worst taste in your mouth and will make you hate this game. -as the cherry on top anet has become anti consumer (and laid off most of the old dev team to boot). -the only reason this game gets any positivity in 2025 is because casual dads with a sunk-cost, no skill reqd or treadmill. its the hello kitty island adventure of mmo's. »

mhanco 10/10

« This is the best MMO out there that is not gonna fail or has not failed that you dont have to pay monthly for and the free version is pretty good »

AmmoClip 0/10

« I installed the entire game, which is over 80 GB. I used five different email addresses just to try and create an account. After failing repeatedly, I tried to recover my old account—and what a nightmare that was. Customer service was terrible. They showed zero empathy. I understand they don’t know who I am, but the least they could do is actually read what I sent instead of copying and pasting generic responses from a script. After wasting four hours, I finally managed to create an account. And once I got into the game, it was a total drag. Honestly, I’d rather go back to Lord of the Rings Online. »
