Forza Horizon 4, développé par Playground Games et édité par Xbox Game Studios, est sorti le 2 octobre 2018 sur PC (Microsoft Windows), Xbox One et Xbox Series X|S. Classé dans les genres course, aventure et sport, ce titre utilise le moteur ForzaTech et intègre la protection Arxan. Les données de complétion indiquent environ 15 heures et demie pour l'histoire principale et 163 heures pour un profil completionniste.
Le jeu propose une expérience de course en monde ouvert située dans une représentation fictive de la Grande-Bretagne, s'inspirant de régions comme Édimbourg, les Highlands écossais, le Lake District et les Cotswolds. Un système de saisons dynamiques fait alterner le monde partagé entre printemps, été, automne et hiver chaque semaine, modifiant les conditions routières, ouvrant de nouveaux itinéraires et changeant le paysage. Les joueurs peuvent y collectionner et piloter des voitures sous licence, la fiche technique évoquant plus de 750 véhicules conduisables à travers courses, cascades et défis sur des serveurs supportant jusqu'à 72 joueurs, tandis que la présentation Steam mentionne plus de 450 voitures auprès de plus de 100 constructeurs. En solo ou en équipe, ils explorent le Royaume-Uni historique en 4K HDR, pouvant modifier et piloter leurs véhicules, réaliser des coups de pub, créer et tracer leur propre chemin pour devenir une star d'Horizon dans une campagne où leurs actions influencent le jeu. L'Édition Deluxe inclut le pass voiture et le pack Formula Drift, et l'Édition Ultime ajoute l'abonnement VIP, les packs de voitures Formula Drift et Le meilleur de Bond, ainsi que les extensions Fortune Island et LEGO® Speed Champions.
Sur le plan de la réception, le jeu obtient un score Metacritic de 88, un score OpenCritic de 92 et une note agrégée de 88,82. La presse a salué l'expérience, GameSpew y voyant un travail d'amour pour les amateurs de voitures et Twinfinite jugeant difficile d'imaginer un jeu de course arcade jouant et paraissant mieux. « Where to start, first of all this game is incredible. So so pretty with the leaves moving when you're flying by. Another thing is how it changes seasons so you could never be bored by it. the revving is what gets me though because sometimes it can be hitting that spot, while at other times it just sounds too man made if that makes sense. The noises aren't smooth it's just engineered to sound bad. It's too much. Love the visuals and the custom paint jobs we can do as I have a bunch of my cars as such. To me it's solid but is it worth it to buy full price on it? No absolutely not, buy it when it's a pretty good sale or you migh just be disappointed who knows. »
