Hollow Knight
« Hollow Knight’s cryptic lore doled out in pieces leads me to believe I saved Hollownest in my ending, but an after-credits screen shows a 73% completion in 27 hours of play. I may have finished, but I’m far from done. I still have tons of upgrades, optional bosses, a true ending and a mantis to overcome. And I’m itching to jump back in. »
« I fell in love with Hollow Knight from the moment I started up the game on Switch. It’s a beautiful, touching experience that has no trouble going toe-to-toe with even some of the biggest games on Switch. Aussie devs Team Cherry have gone above and beyond to make Hollow Knight one of the most enjoyable experiences the Switch has to offer, in what will be remembered as possibly the best third-party game on the system to date. »
« Hollow Knight in its original PC form was exemplary, but now it has landed on Nintendo Switch, complete with all the bells and whistles that have been laden upon the gorgeous adventure since launch, as well as fresh post-release content. This proves to be the perfect antidote for those suffering from Super Metroid withdrawal symptoms. Team Cherry's ode to Nintendo's great may well have edged past its original inspiration. It truly is the game that just keeps on giving; absolutely sublime, in every sense of the word. »
« There's never a low point. Only the desire for more. [Issue #35 – September/October 2018, p. 17] »
« Hollow Knight won't leave you hollow; quite the opposite. This incredible 'metroidvania', most likely the best example the genre has met in over 20 years, will leave you full with a feeling only a few games have achieved: the feeling of having played a masterpiece. »
« Its epic story and own mythology, its easy but extremely strategic and meticulous gameplay and its perfectly tied soundtrack with the feelings that the visual style brings up makes Hollow Knight a must-have game for anyone who has a Nintendo Switch. »
« This is one of the best Metroidvania's ever made. A modern classic. »
« Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania with a well of content to discover that’s as deep as its labyrinthine caves. The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight. »

« Hollow Knight is one of those games I tried to play twice before, but I finally finished it on my third attempt. What can I say about this game besides how gorgeous the art is? It’s a fantastic 2D Metroidvania that feels unique rather than copying others. While it takes some inspiration from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, it introduces its own ideas, such as the Soul meter, which can be used for both healing and special **** boss fights were my favorite part of the game. The exploration, on the other hand, could be frustrating for someone who doesn’t like relying on walkthroughs or guides. The final challenge was one of the hardest things I’ve ever completed in a game—honestly, even harder than the final bosses themselves. Overall, I would give Hollow Knight a 90/100. It’s an amazing game, but some of its design choices can be unnecessarily frustrating. »
« Certainly the best platformer game I have ever had the privelige of playing. Beautiful artstyle, incredibly dramatic music, seamless platforming and hours of gameplay. A brilliant game, but if I had one note it should be that it is also the hardest video game I have ever played. »
Bello. »
« Good metroidvania game with charming art and ambience. Exploring the interconnected maps felt very rewarding. They way they interpreted the different factions of bugs to fit the setting is brilliant. However, it really needs an easy mode for people who don't want to bother with combat. Willingly making an experience frustrating does not make a game better, unless it is confined to some specific challenge. Also the dark fantasy not-telling-you-anything lore in this kind of games has become a bit stale. »
« It influenced a lot of my tastes, I hope it will forever be remembered as one of the greatest masterpieces of indie gaming. It's peak »
