Digitally Downloaded 90/100

« As a game, EDF 5 is such a massive leap from the previous title in the series, in every way, that it feels like it belongs in a different series entirely. And yet, for all its nonsense, giant monsters, and ever-escalating explosions, there's also a sense that this EDF, moreso than its predecessors, has also remembered that something can be B-grade, and still convey some kind of message of worth. »

Hardcore Gamer 90/100

« What makes Earth Defense Force work so well is its complete commitment to the lunacy, presenting its aliens and flying saucers in a completely bombastic fashion that never once admits its all tongue-in-cheek despite being completely obvious that everyone involved is having a blast stuffing as much cheesiness as possible into each level and plot twist. »

Forbes 90/100

« Easily the best in the series thus far and is something I can happily recommend for anyone that enjoys large explosions and destroying giant aliens en masse. »

PlayStation Country 90/100

« EDF is back and as mad as ever. The changes from the previous game are relatively subtle and the grind is certainly still present but no series delivers the sort of insane moments that this one does and EDF5 does it better than ever. »

IGN 83/100

« Even with dated graphics, EDF 5 is an energetic essay on action game design that is way too much fun to miss – especially with friends. »

GameSpot 80/100

« Despite the series' long-running nature, Earth Defense Force 5 is a standout action game, revelling in its own absurdity while crafting a brilliantly fun and lively action game around it. Its huge battles are a joy to watch play out both from up close and afar, and the wide variety of weapons and play styles with each player type offers plenty of reason to come back for more after the final bullet has been fired. »

CGMagazine 80/100

« Earth Defense Force 5 mixes a compelling sense of power and powerlessness, creating chaotic, overwhelming battles filled with laughter and drama that make it hard to put down. »

PlayStation LifeStyle 80/100

« Earth Defense Force 5 is absolutely, thoroughly, another Earth Defense Force. If you know what that is, you know what you’re in for. It’s the first one built for modern hardware, which means more stuff happening on screen, but it’s not an upheaval of the formula, nor is it a magical facelift. »

« Edf5 is one of the most amazing multiplayer game one can play and it has so many different playstyles so many different rates to do it. It's just so fun and especially with friends.Damn problems in the game balancing is not there, but it can't really be helped because the classes are so different in playstyle sometimes. They are a gap between them. I think Ranger is kind of garbage, but I love him **** the game can be really kindy, the problem is Inferno you don't keep any of the items you get so when you're stuck on Inferno you do not get anything out of it which can get really annoying, I had to drop at level 108 because my stress and hatred levels were getting out of **** The game is so amazingly fun seeing frogs go in 100 pieces , surviving a level on the edge of me sit , laughing and talking with friends. It's just so good when it comes together that is one of my favorite moments of gaming with my friends.Just amazingly fun with friends doing stupid stunts that works and get through it and realize seeing the design to a map of enemies. It always comes together to be fun even if I had to drop out at Inferno level 108 because I finally stopped having fun because of the difficulty and I begin to get that thinking of oh my god. What am I using my life or I've been stuck on this level for 8 hours. »

« Very addictive game, co-op mode with two players split-screen is very funny, playing with Wing Diver is such an experience (I like flying a lot). Very recommended for anyone even if you don't like typical shooting games. »

« Indestructible spider webs, pathetic gutter trash. Please just save your money on this one »

HiddenGemsHunt 10/10

« IMO best lotoer shotoer out there with a lot of content, humor, interesting narration and great shooting mechanics. Love it. »

« A great game and update from 4.1. Some of the new monsters are awesome, while others have cool new looks. The new weapon collection and upgrade system is a thing of beauty. Only complaint is the NPC's who yell very stupid comments (often repeating the same stuff) Also the new "naming" system for the monsters is both tediouse and painful. »

OmeQuicksilver 7/10

« The game doesn't really stray far from it's predecessors, fully embracing the schlock that has defined the series since it's inception. But now the technical shortcomings have started to truly grate and show their age. Getting stuck on the geometry, enemy bodies lasting forever and blocking your shots (always fun to kill yourself cuz a corpse falls on your rocket), some truly TERRIBLE RNG needed upgrade weapons make this game more of a drag to play solo then the others. But with some friends it's still good fun. »

« What can I say this game is bonkers and highly enjoyable. It is a prequel to EDF 4.1 but made to be better in many ways. You have 4 classes of soldier to chose from and you must repel an alien invasion where you can fight anything from giant insects to ufos. There are hundreds of weapons and over 100 levels to play, you can pilot vehicles to create carnage and destroy many parts of the level. It does not have the best graphics but the frantic gameplay more than makes up for the game especially on the harder difficulties. I enjoying this game very much and will continue to support the devs and the franchise. +Awesome action and variety in gameplay. +Kill Giant ants and spiders! great to get over arachnophobia! +tanks, helicopters and mechs! what is not to like +Cheese and more cheesy voices but I love it +So many weapons to try + 4 player co -op is great +split screen is great too! -helicopters still fly too low and control is very bad. »

« Soooooo much content and all of it so satisfying! I honestly haven't had this much fun with a game in decades. And the dialogue... oh god it's so wonderful and straight-faced and perfectly ridiculous... »
