Deep Rock Galactic est un jeu de tir à la première personne coopératif développé par le studio danois Ghost Ship Games et édité par Coffee Stain Publishing. Après une sortie en accès anticipé le 28 février 2018, le titre a connu une sortie complète le 13 mai 2020 sur Microsoft Windows et Xbox One, avant d'être décliné sur PlayStation 4 et PlayStation 5 en janvier 2022, puis sur Xbox Series X|S en septembre 2022. Classé parmi les genres jeu de tir, aventure et indépendant, le jeu fonctionne sur le moteur Unreal Engine 4 et est proposé au prix de 29,99 euros.
L'action se déroule sur Hoxxes IV, une planète alien hostile riche en minéraux précieux mais infestée de créatures dangereuses. Les joueurs incarnent des nains mineurs de l'espace employés par la corporation minière intergalactique Deep Rock Galactic, envoyés dans les réseaux souterrains les plus profonds pour extraire des ressources tout en affrontant des hordes de vie alien et des dangers environnementaux. La corporation ne se soucie que des résultats, et les grottes réclament un lourd tribut à ceux qui s'y aventurent trop loin.
Deep Rock Galactic se présente comme un FPS de science-fiction en co-op pour un à quatre joueurs, proposant des environnements 100 % destructibles et des grottes générées de manière procédurale. Les participants peuvent choisir entre quatre classes uniques se complétant mutuellement : le soldat pour frayer un chemin parmi les ennemis, l'éclaireur pour la reconnaissance et l'éclairage des grottes, le foreur pour traverser la roche compacte, et l'ingénieur pour assister l'équipe avec des structures défensives et des tourelles. Munis d'armes high-tech comme des lance-flammes ou de gadgets tels qu'une plateforme de lancement portable, les mineurs doivent extraire des ressources, combattre des essaims d'extraterrestres, s'orienter dans l'obscurité et s'échapper via un drop pod. Une partie centrale demande environ 45 heures, tandis qu'un parcours exhaustif peut atteindre 494 heures.
L'accueil critique a été favorable, avec des scores de 85 sur Metacritic et OpenCritic, pour une note agrégée de 84,06. La presse tchèque du magazine LEVEL a salué un jeu multijoueur co-op non traditionnel à l'atmosphère intense, original, sombre et barbu, tandis que GameGrin l'a décrit comme un excellent mélange de Minecraft et de Starship Troopers au gameplay varié, tout en notant que les graphismes peuvent occasionnellement être un peu en deçà. Du côté des joueurs, certains sur Metacritic qualifient l'expérience coopérative de très amusante grâce à une communauté amicale et un contenu gratuit incluant le battle pass, et des avis sur Steam louent un jeu incroyable porté par une communauté accueillante et des développeurs mettant les joueurs au premier plan.

« Peut-être le jeu coop le plus fun avec la communauté la plus amicale qui existe. Le fait que tout est gratuit dans le jeu notamment le battle pass et que tout le contenu se débloque gratuitement est un énorme point positif quand on voit comment évolue l'industrie du jeu vidéo. « Still the best co-op multiplayer on the market, followed closely by Left For Dead 2. I have played this game over 200 hours and I am still feeling rewarded and encouraged to discover new forms of gameplay. The 4 classes are distinct and have their own charm. The mission variety is massive and the randomly generated maps are beautiful and keep the game refreshing. Even towards the end game, once all characters and weapons are unlocked, the game introduces weapon Overclocks which sometimes completely change the way a weapon is used. I am always on the hunt for that next Overclock which will allow me to make another fun build for a specific class. »

« A really fun coop game. Seriously great style and vibe, feels a lot like the humor of TF2 mixed with Helldivers 2 (even if it came before Helldivers 2). The different mission types make for great variety, and while some were a bit more convoluted than others, all of them ended up pretty fun. The 4 classes didn't clearly make it feel like one was better than the other, but that's only with about 10 hours of play. Singleplayer was how I played the first 10 missions, and despite being built for 4 players all mission types felt doable, especially with the Bosco robot they give you when alone. Definitely made for multiplayer though, so I recommend buying if you know you have some friends to play, even if not immediately. »
