Description (IGDB)
The player controls a small, circular spaceship which must travel around the screen collecting crystals. This task is made more difficult by the aliens which constantly swarm out from the portals on both sides of the screen. These can be shot down by the ship's gun (which has unlimited ammo) or eliminated by activating one of the player's limited supply of "smart bombs", which will clear the screen of all current enemies.

Crystal Quest Classic is a revival of the 1987 award winning video game. The original was played on almost every Macintosh computer in existence before being ported to the Apple IIgs, Amiga and the Game Boy – followed many years later by a reawakening on the Xbox360. It had so many firsts including being the very first color game on the Macintosh. Crystal Quest was one of 5 titles included in Macworld Magazine’s “Game Hall of Fame” and got 5 out of 5 mice from MacUser Magazine.

There are bonuses, smart bombs and mines. There are also 12 achievements that you can earn. Some are harder than others.
This is an early game designed by Carmageddon creator Patrick Buckland, with all the art and sound effects just as he created them. And yes, the level exit sound is Patrick.

Update + More Fixes
In an effort to keep up with the latest hardware (aka 64 bit), we have posted a new version up compiled with the best and most compatible tools. I also snuck in some fixes for the Settings menu that people have been asking for. I am still working on adding a joystick control that is fun. The problem is that a joystick is a lot less precise when compared to a mouse. But be assured that I am listening and working on it. As soon as I have anything that is fun, I will post it.
Taco Truck Madness Needs Help In Greenlight
For fans of Crystal Quest Classic, we wanted to tell you that Game Mechanics has another game currently in Steam Greenlight looking for 'Yes' votes. It is called Taco Truck Madness. It is a callback to SNES titles but with up to date graphics and sound. The gameplay is similar to console and arcade games of the mid-90s. The controls are simple. Making it to the end is challenging. It takes a steady hand to get passed all the things out there to get you. It is pure fun and will make you laugh. Give it a Yes vote so we see it on Steam!
