Batman: Arkham Asylum est un jeu d'aventure mêlant beat 'em up et infiltration, développé par Full Fat et édité par Eidos Interactive. Prévu initialement sur Nintendo DS, ce port a malheureusement été annulé. Le jeu original, récompensé par la critique, a connu une édition remastérisée « Game of the Year » incluant quatre nouvelles cartes pour le mode Défi.
Le joueur incarne Batman, explora l’asile d’Arkham en toute liberté et utilise un système de combat FreeFlow pour enchaîner les combos. L’enquête repose sur des outils de police scientifique (scans, relevé d’empreintes) et des énigmes retorses. Les ennemis emblématiques de Gotham – Joker, Harley Quinn, Victor Zsasz ou Killer Croc – sont de la partie. La furtivité est essentielle : Batman peut se déplacer en prédateur invisible, attaquer depuis les hauteurs ou briser les murs. Plusieurs gadgets (Batarangs, gel explosif, grappin) viennent compléter l’arsenal.
L’aventure principale dure environ douze heures, et près de vingt-cinq heures pour une complétion exhaustive. Fonctionnant sous Unreal Engine 3, le titre a été salué par la presse : GameSpy loue son écriture intelligente et son respect de la licence, tandis que ZTGD le compare au phénomène BioShock. Les joueurs soulignent son caractère novateur et le plaisir de jeu intact, même si certains notent un léger vieillissement avec le temps.
