Histoire (IGDB)

In the year 1190, the wars of the Third Crusade engulfed the Holy Land, and Crusaders clashed with Saracens for the control of the Holy City, Jerusalem. Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, a renowned Master Assassin of the Assassin Order, arrived at Alep from an arduous journey and found it under attack by the sworn enemies of the Assassins, the Knights Templar. Left with no choice but to repel the attack, the Assassin defeated many of them, even killing a low-ranking captain before the attack was halted. Afterwards, tasked by Rashid ad-Din Sinan, the Mentor of the Levantine Assassins, Altaïr was sent to find and retrieve a sacred object known as the Chalice, which was said to have the power to unite all the factions under one flag of whichever side possessed it, ending the Third Crusade in victory for either the Crusaders or the Saracens. Setting off immediately, Altaïr embarked on his new quest.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

Nintendo Power 75/100

« Strangely enough, Altair's Chronicles feels more stealth-centric than its console predecessor. [Mar 2008, p.87] »

Gamer 2.0 71/100

« Although some slight problems exist, Altair’s latest adventure is more of the same while offering new challenges and innovative segments. »

IGN 70/100

« It's not very long (probably about three hours give or take), and by the time you earn all the cool Assassin abilities, there aren't a whole lot of opportunities to use them...Even with the issues, I had a good time playing through Assassin's Creed multiple times. »

GameDaily 70/100

« It's okay, but hardly a killer effort for the franchise. »

GameZone 70/100

« Exhilarating. Exasperating. Joyous. Torturous. Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles is a lot of things. Perfection isn’t one of them. »

GameSpy 70/100

« Altair's Chronicles occasional control speed, framerate, and camera issues make us think that this would have been a superior game in 2D, but no one's returning our calls about making classically-influenced 2D platformers for the DS. »

NintendoWorldReport 70/100

« A fun platformer that ends up feeling more like Prince of Persia DS than Assassin’s Creed. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the DS could use more action games like this. Sadly, the adventure lasts about a weekend, and there are no real unlockables after beating the game aside from an extra difficulty mode. »

AtomicGamer 70/100

« While we wished Altair had packed a stylus instead of a sword, we're delighted he's returned to us so soon. Still, don't play Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles if you're looking to build on the console experience. You'll be disappointed if you do. »

« Theworstpiece of crap that I have ever played. The mechanics aren't even correct!!! You want to do something and something else happens!! I had to restart a mission because I couldn't grab a ladder so I needed to have full HP. Metacritic is even fking worse towritehere. »

Ciocolici 4/10

« This was a slog to get through, clunky controls, outdated mechanics, and writing that couldn’t keep me interested. The difficulty mostly comes from how bad the character handles, and the game drags on way longer than it should. I wanted to play it for Altaïr, but it didn’t even feel like him. A few moments were okay, but I’m just glad it’s over. »

ninjaguy454 6/10

« AC: Altair's Chronicles is a title that I feel was ambitious, especially for the time. However, the ambition did not age well. Visually, the game looks really good. It has a neat concept considering the DS's limitations and it does a fairly good job of working the gameplay around that. I think many of the minigames that Gameloft implemented come off as gimmicky and unnecessary. The combat is that titular classic AC style. Block, counter, block, counter, block... you get the idea. The moderate satisfaction you get from that is ruined by the frame-rate which is just horrid. While alone, you get 20-30 fps. When you come into a busy scene or combat, the framerate tanks to single digits and it felt like I was playing a slideshow at times. I think the game on the DS showed potential and that was recognized by Ubisoft when they released other AC Chronicle titles. Due mostly to the abhorrent frame rates I cannot recommend this to anyone. »

TragicalLog 5/10

« The gameplay it’s... ok: some parts are so boring and frustrating, you can literally kill every basic enemy with X+X until you get Y+Y+X, nothing else is needed in order to complete the game, the spikes insta-kill the player and some jumps are odd and the history is mostly interesting. In matter of bugs and glitches, there is some invisible walls that you can climb, and parts when those walls can leave you out of bounds. I did not have fun while playing this game, but it’s really ok for being a 2008 game released for the DS and mobile. »

Henri-K-18- 3/10

« Horrible frame rates, and combat system. Minigames are pretty bad. Storyline is too simple. But I guess it is a good one, to its prize. »
