Tenchu Z

65 /100
05 octobre 2006

« Tenchu fans will definitely not be disappointed. Tenchu Senran is easily the best Tenchu game to date. [JPN Import] »

Play Magazine 85/100

« Ninja games being as rare as they've become, its nice to have "Tenchu" back, especially given the number of refinements FROM have added, along with the online play. [June 2007, p.74] »

Cheat Code Central 72/100

« The story was completely disjointed, and the graphics were only satisfactory, but the gameplay was really fun, and the soundtrack is good, so I'm not going to hate on this one too much. »

GamePro 70/100

« Once I got past all of the problems in the collision-detection and accepted the fact that as long as my ninja stabbed the floor within a three foot radius of a bad guy, it was a kill, I had a mild amount of fun. »

ZTGD 70/100

« Stealth kills never get old, and the variety of mission types help to break the same old same old. »

Thunderbolt 70/100

« For fans of serious stealth, the title is a must buy. Less hardcore gamers will probably be better off with something more mainstream, but if you're trying to understand what "cult classic" means, Tenchu is probably a safe bet. »

TeamXbox 67/100

« Surprisingly, Tenchu Z comes off “chunky” in general; the antithesis of what a ninja game should feel like- sleek and efficient. »

Gamer's Hell 67/100

« It was a major letdown considering the extensive weaponry and ninja moves available, but in the end this game runs dry fast. »

« Link to my full review: https://www.gamespot.com/tenchu-z/user-reviews/2200-259350/ This site has a 5000 character limit. I will simply say that this game is a stealth game and should be played that way. Critics at the time seemed to think it was Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry. It's not. You sneak around and take out your enemies like a true ninja. To this day I still haven't found another stealth game that's as fun as Tenchu Z was/is. I recently went back and finished my last Xbox 360 achievement that I needed (kill 50 Tomikichi). »

« Great mechanics and pretty fluid, an awesome game in every single aspect... It's definitely underrated by the unfair and lazy critics, btw. »

« This was my first and so far, to this date, only game of the Tenchu franchise I played but not the last I will be playing. I put about 50 hours into this game, completing all missions on all difficulties. This game is great and easy to pick up too, playing it every now and then. Some breaks might be needed to its repetitive nature but the gameplay itself makes it fun all the time. Upgrading your character with abilities or changing his stats at all times, customising for upcoming missions made this game very enjoyable as I was able to just pick the style that suited me. First you are very slow, but after a while, you gain insane speed and abilities, that you really feel like a ninja. Jumping from roof to roof and mowing down enemies one by one and rushing through the level can be insanely satisfying. Definetly recommending this game. The fighting though is a bit clunky, so I would only recommend playing it entirely stealthy and trying not to mind the awkward boss fights too much. »

« I liked this stealth game, because I’m fan of the world of Tenchu and Japanese culture. The story was quite slow but not bad at all. The best thing in this game is the detailed and complex controls. A lot of abilities, movements, equipment is available for the player. Although some of them don’t have sense, but they give many opportunities and variability to the player. The stealth system is quite detailed, for example we have to pay attention to our smell not only to the sight and noise. Unfortunately, the artificial intelligence of the enemies is very bad. The developers should have paid much more attention to this while AI is a key component of stealth games. Furthermore the game doesn’t reward the ghost gameplay style. We get the most points if we kill all the opponents. Maybe the largest mistake in the game is the repetating missions. It was a disapointment, when i had to finish the same mission under a different title. Gamers, who like stealth games give it a try. »

« LOVED THIS GAME! I played and beat all 50 missions about 5 times over. It may be a little repetitive, but think about it! If you were a skilled ninja assassin would you switch things up in the middle of a mission? Hell no! Your go in there do your thing bust some ass and garentee you make it home »

« Yes, it falls short of next-gen graphical standards... yes, it re-treads some familiar Tenchu ground... yes, the AI is still stuck in 1999... But it's also the most refined Tenchu game yet... your ninja can do more than ever (e.g. paralyzing blows, chained stealth kills, kills through japanese sliding doors) and the stealth concept is ever more fleshed out, as there are now more ways than ever to get detected, meaning greater strategy is needed to, say, keep the moonlight from reflecting off your weapon. Oh, and making a grand, overdue comeback to the series: the ability to sheath your bloody sword!! My only real gripe is that the main character is quite generic (although with a customizable look) and the story is more of a collection of missions than an evolving saga. So, no Rikimaru, no Ayame, no Tenryu or Mei-Oh, just "you are ninja, now go ninja these people..." All told, this game manages to stay mucho fun through all 50 missions, despite not making any of the quantum leaps we expect from next-gen sequels. »
