Critical Hits 90/100

« Abyssus shows promise with its blend of progression, varied weapons and abilities, and co-op gameplay, offering a solid base for fun. However, inconsistent performance holds it back at launch. With the right optimizations, it could secure a lasting place in the genre. »

CGMagazine 85/100

« Abyssus is an excellent, fast and frenetic roguelike FPS that you can play with your friends, and a must-play for fans of the genre. »

Hey Poor Player 80/100

« Despite these concerns, I’ve had a lot of fun with Abyssus, and I imagine I’ll continue to do so. It’s not the most complicated game I’ve ever played, and it has some balance issues, but it just feels so good to blow enemies away and to chain abilities together that can cause massive havoc around you. I’ll just make sure that when I come back to Abyssus, I’m consistently doing it with a crew of friends who are all ready to cause even more of that mayhem with me. »

Endless Mode 76/100

« Still, even with these many rough stretches, there’s enough worth seeing in Abyssus that fans of run-based first-person shooting will likely be willing to power through many of these problems. Its core run-and-gunning offers twitchy thrills, and when the customization works, it leads to some wildly different weapons. While there likely isn’t any saving the game’s lackluster worldbuilding, with some progression tweaks and difficulty adjustments, it’s easy to imagine this being a much more airtight ship. And even with some leaks, Abyssus is still largely worth checking out thanks to its frenetic gunplay and compounding upgrades that will leave you the king of the sea. »

Game8 76/100

« Abyssus is a thrilling and addictive roguelite FPS that shines brightest when played with friends, as the chaos and challenge ramp up the deeper you venture into the ancient civilization hidden beneath the dark sea. »

COGconnected 75/100

« Abyssus is a solid title, and one that I expect to return to over and over until I complete it. While there are some aspects that could be improved, they won’t deter me from coming back to the post-launch content when those eventually release as well. For a surprisingly enjoyable FPS roguelike title, look no further than Abyssus this summer. I am looking forward to seeing how the game continues to grow over time, as well as hopping into some multiplayer action down the line. »

The Games Machine 75/100

« Abyssus is a good cooperative roguelite shooter, featuring a beautiful setting and decent gunplay, but it suffers from lack of variety, being too chaotic at times (especially with four players) and also, let's face it, having a subdued soundtrack. It must be said, however, that when you're shooting, you don't ask too many questions. »

GameSpew 70/100

« A roguelike first-person shooter with a brinepunk aesthetic, Abyssus provides a lot of frantic fun, especially if played in co-op. Its progression could do with a little work, though, with you needing to grind Soul Fragments to unlock basic upgrades that feel necessary for your survival, alongside some pesky difficulty spikes. »

Sniper0822 9/10

« Solid game, nothing unique, but it blends other games in itself very well Gunplay is fresh and fun, the abilities feel strong, the progression is steady and motivating, and I feel as each run I face is new, with new things to see or do in each Sometimes black squares appear while playing, blocking out most of the screen, other than that no bugs appeared for me Genuinely recommending to get, especially fun with friends »

RedDuelist 7/10

« This was so sick, I love the thought of the underwater Mayan dungeons and clearing these. Have only played singleplayer so far, but reckon it's even more fun with co-op. »

SB442 7/10

« Nice roguelike with cool gunplay and some fun abilities. Unfortunately, it just doesn't offer enough novelties and does not reinvent any aspect of genre. This results in repetition quite fast and random chance was guiding most of my game sessions, sadly. The unlockables are not as interesting as they should be and metaprogression feels rather slow and all runs essentially start at the exact same place, so it never feels like I was gaining power or abilities during my last playsesssions. There is no story, no real quests or interesting objectives that could have spiced up the monotony of the gunplay. I was the progression system was a bit more interesting and engaging. »

mugen_is_here 2/10

« It's a very boring game and deeply unsatisfying. The enemies rack up health exponentially. In the first level you can kill an enemy with 20-40 bullets (BTW your gun each clip has 40 bullets). within 2 levels they have like 100 health. And soon they have 1000 health. And pretty soon it feels like they've got like 5k-50k health. I'm emptying clip after clip and they simply don't die. It takes like 500 bullets (10 clips) to kill off 1 minion. Boss takes like 50 clips. Worst shooter I've ever played! »

Lastpullbuff 7/10

« Journeying into uncharted depths, Abyssus lets you obliterate enemies lurking in the depths of sunken ruins, offering a solid selection of weapons and blessings to enhance your power. On the surface, the game showcases some impressive features. However, it could benefit from further tuning in terms of player scaling and latency issues in multiplayer. »
