Yakuza: Dead Souls
Description (IGDB)
Yakuza: Dead Souls is an action-adventure/survival horror video game, developed and published by Sega exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The game is the sixth installment in the Yakuza series. The game is set during a zombie outbreak in Kamurocho.
Histoire (IGDB)
Dead Souls is a non-canonical side story set during April 2011, one year after the events of Yakuza 4. A sudden zombie outbreak spreads throughout Kamurocho, and is slowly quarantined as the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force is called in to contain the infection. In the wake of the outbreak, four men seek to help the people of Kamurocho and find the source of the disease: Shun Akiyama, a moneylender attempting to rescue his secretary Hana; Goro Majima, a feared yakuza and construction boss trying to stave off his own infection; Ryuji Goda, who has survived his wounds at the end of Yakuza 2 and is working as a takoyaki chef; and Kazuma Kiryu, an orphanage caretaker and former yakuza forced to return to Kamurocho when his adopted daughter Haruka is kidnapped. The game is split in four parts, each focusing on a particular character.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« Conceptually, the Yakuza series might appear to have "jumped the shark," but Sega has designed the game well enough and with such enthusiasm that you can't help but be impressed. »
« Sega's Yakuza team goes way off the beaten path with Yakuza: Dead Souls and infuses its otherwise serious, grounded series with a fresh injection of zombie mayhem. With gunplay as clunky as Resident Evil 4 it manages to emulate Capcom's franchise quite well, and in pure chaos and weirdness, actually manages to outshine the latter attempts. Not as much of a world to explore as in Yakuza 4, but way more zombies to murder and a nice catch-up of some of the series' strongest characters. »
« It's the equivalent of a shrapnel grenade rather than single, well-placed sniper bullets. Some bits will miss, others will lodge deep enough to leave a lasting impression. [May 2012, p.106] »
« It has a blemished, blood-soaked face that's going to scare off some gamers, but there's a lot of heart and fun to be found by those willing to dig beneath the ghoulish surface. »
« Packs a charming city hub, but dull repetitive combat lets it down. [June 2012, p.80] »
« Yakuza: Dead Souls doesn't reinvent the zombie shooter with its simple combat scheme, but mowing down the walking dead in their hundreds and executing some neat special moves provides some frantically-paced arcade-styled thrills. »
« Going into Yakuza: Dead Souls I had some reservations, but after playing it, I'm happy to say that this works surprisingly well. »
« Well, you certainly didn't see this one coming. Zombie invasion in Yakuza controlled Kamurocho is certainly something you don't see every day. The game isn't an Asian version of the Left 4 Dead, thanks to the sloppy controls. [May 2012] »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« Yakuza: Dead Souls stands out for its irreverent humor, fun (though repetitive) shooting mechanics, and laugh-out-loud side missions. However, the lack of a stronger story and a deeper gameplay system prevents it from shining as it should. My score: *** »
« With a bit more time in the oven to smoothen up the janky gunplay, Dead Souls could have an instant classic. Yakuza's over the top humour and charm mesh very well with a campy zombie story, while retaining some of the deep emotional moments that resonate pretty well. The combat is what holds this game back, but it can be enjoyable enough when you get used to it. If you can find it at a discounted price, and you want something strange to play, then Dead Souls might be worth a try. However, if you want to stick with more tried and true goofy zombie games, then maybe stick to Dead Rising. »
« A funny spin-off ofthe franchise with his all fantastic character of the series. The gun play is very **** with charisma of the main's characthers its still funny to play. Its really good and fun to shoot zombie randomly on the game »
« Fans of Yakuza will like this zombie-themed spinoff despite some flaws. The game has everything you'd expect from the series. Unfortunately, the shooting controls are quite clunky. But the story is involving and there's tons of side-missions and content. Just like the Dead Rising games, it's good silly fun. Overall, I would rate Dead Souls with a 7.4 out of 10. »
« Alot of reviews sayin this game isn't good or worth the play. So strange. This game is really worth playing if you like Yakuza and zombie games. To my surprise the open world still exists in this game and there's just loads of classic Yakuza fun to find. I would not skip playing this. I feel this should be remastered for PS4 and 5 gen. So much potential. »
« This game is so boring, they went from the deep and satisfying combat from the previous games and replaced it with watered-down Dead Rising style combat. »
« I'll give a short review about this game: if you like Yakuza series and you like shooting games, play it. Pay no mind to the bad reviews. Seriously, who wouldn't like this game? I want another game like this without a doubt. »
« Muy bueno el juego, no se porque le dan tan mala puntuación. Recuerda mucho al zombie revenge de Dreamcast, es genial!!! Lo único malo al principio es la cámara, pero te acostumbras en seguida, además tiene 3 modos diferentes para disparar según la situación y vos elegís la que te quede más cómoda. »
