The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Description (IGDB)
This compilation bundles the following games: The House of the Dead 2 (Dreamcast) The House of the Dead III (Xbox) Both games were ported to the Wii with support for the Wii Zapper peripheral. A new Extreme mode is unlockable for The House of the Dead III, with faster enemy attacks and smaller bullet blast radii for the player's guns (similar to the handgun in the second game). At the same time, the shotgun can be reloaded much faster and a new melee attack is introduced: Guard Attack. It is a powerful move that also blocks incoming attacks, but requires a "reload" time.
Histoire (IGDB)
HotD2: The game follows the fictional events of February 26, 2000, fourteen months after the 1998 Curien Mansion incident in The House of the Dead. AMS agent G has gone missing and his last known location is Venice, Italy. The city of Venice becomes chaotic when a strange zombie breakout takes place. American AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart are dispatched, along with Amy Crystal and Harry Harris, to investigate and evacuate the populace. They suddenly encounter the impish Zeal, who had recently dealt with G. Upon finding G alive but wounded, James and Gary converse with him and G gives them a field journal showing the bosses and weak points. The pair are then met with a massive undead horde, similar to the kind from the Curien Mansion incident. They continue on, trying to save the town's civilians from the zombies. HotD3: The zombie infestation has spread all over the world, reducing the world into desolation with the civilization collapsing. In 2019 (16 years after the events of The House of the Dead 4), a paramilitary force led by retired AMS agent Thomas Rogan infiltrates the EFI Research Facility, a research center formerly owned by Dr. Roy Curien located in an unnamed place in Europe or North America, to investigate what led to the world's collapse. During the mission, his entire team is killed, until he and his second-in-command, Captain Dan Taylor are left. When they manage to find their answer in a giant laboratory, Death, a gigantic mutant who serves as the facility's security guard, kills Taylor and injures Rogan. While fighting to stay alive, Rogan is approached by an unidentified figure in a semi-corporate attire who offers help. Contact with him is lost. Two weeks later, on October 31, Rogan's daughter, Lisa, accompanied by his former partner, semi-retired agent "G", arrives at the facility to rescue him. While navigating through the facility, they fend off against hordes of undead creatures, before they encounter Death, whom they fight twice. Later, they fight a deformed sloth, The Fool, and a mutated tendrilous plant named The Sun. Along the way, Lisa muses to "G" how she has to live in the shadows of her well-known father and that she is often the subject of his comparison.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« Although you can beat both games in a matter of hours, their pick up and play nature makes them worth revisiting several times. Sega should have included the original, but for $29.99, we'll let it slide. »
« A great value for the money. It’s a fantastic multiplayer game, and even if you’re just duel-wielding by your lonesome, blowing zombies apart is incredibly fun. »
« A brilliant Zapper title with plenty to offer. [May 2008, p.52] »
« A classic slice of arcade action. While it's a crying shame the first and fourth games are absent, Return is still a brilliant Zapper title with plenty to offer. »
« If pointing at the screen and shooting is missing in your life and you are craving a killing Zombie romp, these classics now available on the Nintendo Wii seem the perfect choice to fill this void. »
« This has two perfect ports, both of which are fun, but a new game would have been much better. [May 2008, p.88] »
« These games look fairly dated and the bonus content here is a little thin. Shooter fans who’ve already had their fill of "Umbrella Chronicles" and "Ghost Squad" might find this worth checking out. »
« It's great to have more Zapper action but we reckon Sega could have put a bit more effort into this one. [Issue#21, p.68] »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« Un port excelente que convierte la experiencia arcade en un tragaperras gratuito: la misma melancolía, la misma nostalgia... pero sin tener que hurgar en el bolsillo. ¿Qué más quieres? »
« It's too bad "Return" doesn't include the first game. Still, both parts 2 and 3 are great fun to play on the Wii, especially with a partner. The motion controls work well, but it's the extra modes that make this collection a must for fans. If the first "House" was included, this would get an 8. But as it is, I'd rate this two-title collection with a 7.3 out of 10. »
« This two pack collection is a must have for fans. It includes a few exclusive modes and the motion controls work well. Between the two games, HOTD III is easily the better offering. And while both games are fun single player experiences, you'll get the most out of them with a partner. It's just too bad the first game in the series wasn't included. Overall, I would rate this with a 7.5 out of 10. »
« A good port of two classic light gun games. Each one lasts about 40 minutes, but they are fast-paced and fun. Both titles include extra challenge modes. While solo play can be enjoyable, it's best to co-op with a buddy. This is a must have for series fans thanks to the motion controls. My main complaint would be the exclusion of the first "House". Overall, I would rate this with a 7.5 out of 10. »
« [RU] Может с критиками что-то не так, но мне этот сборник очень понравился. Да, хотелось бы, чтобы они добавили первую часть, но даже при этом, играется очень бодро и весело! »
« This wii version of "The House of the Dead" collects the best games in the series in this famous arcade shooter, yeah it ,might have a really silly plot and terrible voice acting, but still great games. The replacement of the lightgun with the wii remote make the shooting more effective and fluent that the original arcade and that option to turn blood color green to make it look less violent is a nice touch... unnecessary... but nice. Overall, it is the same game from the arcades without any improvement or extras besides the green blood option and without spending coins every time you get killed, which is the tedious part of any arcade. it is a great silly zombie shooter game, that you can play in your couch without being in a waiting line on an arcade to play it. Maybe not the best port out there, but still very enjoyable. »
« No entenc aquestes puntuacions baixes... es un joc arcade que sempre havies desitjat tenir a casa, i ara pots! bonissim, i més si es a dos jugadors!! GRAN!! »
« A great game for the Wii. This is an excellent port of 2 classic arcade titles. The controls work great, this is the closest you will get to the actual arcade machine in the comfort of your living room without having to buy one. »
