Sorti le 13 janvier 2005 sur Game Boy Advance, Mario Party Advance est un jeu de société et de quiz développé par Hudson Soft et édité par Nintendo. Le titre propose une expérience conçue pour le jeu portable, structurée autour de plateaux en solo où le joueur découvre une soixantaine de mini-jeux. La progression repose sur l'accumulation de pièces permettant de débloquer des « Gaddgets », des gadgets imaginés par le Professeur E. Gadd comme le Lip Disguise-o-matic, le Finger X-Ray ou le Compatibility Meter, que le jeu invite à utiliser dans la vie réelle en interagissant directement avec l'écran de la console. Le titre a également été rendu disponible ultérieurement sur Wii U.
Côté réception, le jeu affiche une note agrégée de 34,69, reflétant un accueil critique partagé. La presse spécialisée s'est montrée divisée : eToychest le considérait comme un achat indispensable pour les possesseurs de GBA, tandis que WHAM! Gaming regrettait l'absence de prise en charge de l'adaptateur sans fil, qui aurait permis de retrouver l'esprit multijoueur traditionnel de la série. Du côté des joueurs, les avis recueillis sur Metacritic sont sévères, certains qualifiant l'expérience de décevante, voire désastreuse, en raison d'une orientation trop marquée vers la quête solitaire de type « fetch quest », d'un nombre limité de personnages jouables et de mécaniques de dé restreintes, s'éloignant ainsi de la formule festive multijoueur attendue. Pour en voir le bout de l'histoire principale, il faut compter environ six heures et demie, tandis qu'une complétion totale demande près de quatorze heures et demie.

Only four playable characters, a limited dice roll amount, and especially boring features make Mario Tennis Ultra Smash look like Mario Tennis Aces and 3DS Super Mario Maker look like Super Mario Maker 2. This is the worst Mario Party game (along with the Top 100) and the second-worst Game Boy Advance game next to the GBA version of Madden 07. »
« This is by far one of the worst gaming experiences I have ever had. Mario Party is, well, a party game. Meant to play with your friends and future enemies. This is not that. Why is it only single player? Why are there only 4 characters? Why is the main gameplay about fetch quests? Why are gadgets even a thing? Why is the main gameplay driving around a city in a car? These are questions that may never be answered. I can't give it a one, since there are some good minigames which you can play in between the more boring gameplay, and there are some charming moments, but why would you ever touch this game? It fails at being a Mario Party game and isn't enjoyable enough to make up for that. Horrible game. »
