Mafia III, développé par Hangar 13 et publié par 2K Games, Take-Two Interactive et Aspyr Media, est sorti le 7 octobre 2016 sur PlayStation 4, Windows et Xbox One, puis sur Mac en mai 2017 et sur Google Stadia en octobre 2021. Ce jeu d'action-aventure en monde ouvert, troisième volet de la série Mafia et suite de Mafia II, se déroule en 1968 dans la ville fictive de New Bordeaux. Il met en scène Lincoln Clay, ancien criminel et vétéran du Vietnam contraint de revenir à la délinquance pour aider sa famille adoptive face à la mafia locale, avant de partir en quête de vengeance après le meurtre de ses proches et de bâtir un empire criminel. Le titre est classé parmi les genres jeu de tir, course et aventure, fonctionne sur le moteur Fusion Engine, et affiche un temps de completion de 22 heures et demie pour l'histoire principale et 51 heures en mode completionniste, pour un prix de 29,99 euros. La presse a salué la sincérité du traitement de thèmes difficiles et la force narrative, tout en notant que le jeu diviserait le public en raison de problèmes techniques, et certains joueurs regrettent des missions répétitives ou intenses, tandis que d'autres le considèrent comme leur Mafia préféré. Le score Metacritic s'élève à 62, l'OpenCritic à 66 et la note agrégée à 65,15.

« Amazing game, solid story, amazing gameplay, but sometimes so intense and hard and heavy to advance, all game gives challenges, but this gives a BIG challenge, the DLC Animals gives me the most complete experience, the progress in the game makes you feel in the mafia, and every dialogue is so cool, 2K you make history with this. « Repetitive, buggy and crashes often. Don't buy this game if you're a trophy hunter. Once the game crashes (which it will) it locks you out of getting certain trophies. I was on my fourth playthrough because of this with 1 trophy left to get and it crashed. I'm sick n tired of this game. I deleted it and regret ever wasting my time on this garbage game »
