CPUGamer 100/100

« Nothing less than a revolution in the gaming industry that will keep gamers busy for years to come, just as the original did. »

Playboy 100/100

« A graphics overhaul delivers detailed facial animations and sophisticated physics that leave battle zones strewn with debris after intense shootouts with shuffling corpses, overfed curstaceans and other assorted foes. [October, p.37] »

GameSpy 100/100

« From its opening moments to its spectacular closing sequences, Half-Life 2 assaults you with a variety of gameplay styles and memorable moments, all executed with amazing precision. »

GamerArchive 100/100

« Valve have once again managed to transform a genre, and taken pure gaming pleasure to brand new, unthought of heights. The sheer number of moments you'll be astounded by the graphical touches, by the storyline, by the sheer polished nature of the title, and even the incredible level design is quite astounding. »

Cincinnati Enquirer 100/100

« I found the little things most impressive. Telephone lines ripple from the wind kicked up by passing alien gun ships. Even motes of dust meander into view as they casually flit through rays of sunshine. »

eToychest 100/100

« The delivered promise of video games to stand alongside cinema and literature as works of art. It accomplishes this through extraordinary graphical and audio prowess, wrapped around a riveting story and conveyed by unsurpassed gameplay...It is, bar none, the finest game I've ever played. »

Adrenaline Vault 100/100

« Valve's inclusion of an interactive physics-based environment and the wonderful gravity gun lends itself to fun gravity puzzles, making use of good old-fashioned common sense and intuition - something I've found to be absent in the average first-person shooter. »

Gamer.tv 100/100

« We laughed, we gaped, we cried, screamed, and on a few occasions, came dangerously close to wetting ourselves. »

JBminerlol 8/10

« Half-Life 2 is a great sequel to the first game, but I have a couple of gripes with it, I feel that the weapons are good no doubt, however maybe i'm biased but I like Half-Life 1 more, like the first game's arsenal feels more snappy, pretty fun still. -JB »

« Ever since I was a kid, I wanted a game with great physics, a great story, great music, great graphics—everything excellent. Half-Life 2 has all of that. Go buy it—it's on sale for 1.95. »

sul0 10/10

« Half-Life 2 is a legendary game and a true milestone in the FPS genre. Its physics-based gameplay, especially the gravity gun, was revolutionary. The story is immersive, and the world-building is excellent. Even years later, the level design and the atmosphere still feel modern and exciting. It is a must-play masterpiece for every gamer. »

AnubisRM 9/10

« This is one of those truly odyssey-like video games, thanks to Valve’s great variety and creativity in their design. Half-Life 2 is deservedly an icon in the annals of video games and a testament to the depth that the shooter genre can achieve. It almost dares to be forgotten, but the years and subsequent far-branching legacy of the game have proven that it simply cannot be. »

« *Half-Life 2* remains one of the most impressive first-person shooters ever made. Its world-building and environmental storytelling make City 17 feel believable and immersive, and the game does an excellent job of making you feel like you truly are Gordon Freeman. The pacing is consistently engaging, mixing combat, puzzles, and vehicle sections without letting any one element overstay its welcome.>> The supporting cast is likable, especially Alyx, while the ending leaves a strong desire to continue the story. Although the enemy AI and physics no longer feel revolutionary by modern standards, they still hold up well and contribute to a polished gameplay experience. The soundtrack is memorable, if somewhat sparse, and the voice acting and sound design are excellent.>> My biggest criticism is that the constant enemy pressure and some of the darker, more intense levels reduce its replay value for me personally. Even so, *Half-Life 2* is a landmark FPS that I would absolutely recommend to anyone interested in the genre. »
