Doki Doki Literature Club! est un jeu développé et édité par Team Salvato, avec la participation de Serenity Forge pour l'édition, sorti le 22 septembre 2017. Classé parmi les genres aventure, indépendant et visual novel, il est disponible sur PC (Microsoft Windows), Mac, Linux, Android et iOS, et fonctionne sous le moteur Ren'Py. Le club de littérature réunit Sayori, jeune fille pleine de soleil qui valorise le bonheur, Natsuki, apparemment mignonne mais affirmée, Yuri, timide et mystérieuse et passionnée de livres, ainsi que Monika, la présidente du club. Le jeu se présente comme une expérience mignonne autour du club, mais il est précisé qu'il n'est pas adapté aux enfants ni aux personnes facilement perturbées. Une partie principale demande environ quatre heures, tandis qu'une approche complétionniste atteint sept heures et demie. Le titre obtient un score de 78 sur Metacritic, 87 sur OpenCritic et une note agrégée de 84,40. La presse a salué l'œuvre, Multiplayer.it évoquant l'un des meilleurs visual novels jamais réalisés et RPG Fan le décrivant comme une surprise plaisante de 2017 aux dents les plus aiguisées, tandis que certains joueurs sur Metacritic regrettent que la connaissance préalable du jeu en ait diminué l'effet, d'autres louant une expérience magnifique sur tous les plans et des avis Steam positifs célébrant une expérience formidable ou une merveille.

« i think if i had played this game having never heard of it i'd like it a lot more, but knowing what i did going in really brought the game down, as well as having a really slow first act. very interesting premise although i think it could have been executed a little better »
