The Webby Award just arrived

So I asked the Webby Award organizers to carve this line on the statuette and they did :) (see line 4): {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33932460/4fab4322efc55b0852ba09da7aa4f71defd85ebc.png Thank you all again for your support - this award is dedicated to all of you!

All thank you notes have been sent!

I know what you're all wondering: having completed this quest, how's his HP (i.e. hand)? How is his sanity meter? Did he level up? All of this and more will be answered in this update. ALL CARDS HAVE BEEN SENT I'm happy to say that all cards have been sent today via the USPS First-Class Mail® / First-Class Mail International®. If you live in the U.S., expect yours to arrive within 1–5 Business Days. International shipping might take a little longer. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/apps/433550/extras/sending.gif Q: ARE ALL CARDS SIGNED / WRITTEN BY YOU? Yes. Q: ARE ALL CARDS PERSONALIZED? Yes. It might seem like it would be a tedious task to write so many personalized notes, but it actually ended up being a totally wholesome experience. You won't receive a generic "THANK YOU - Best regards" card. Expect a real handwritten message. Many of you wrote kind, often touching emails that accompanied the forms. These emails allowed to me to write lengthy heartfelt responses. Other notes were interesting to write just based on the destination alone - to a country I've visited before, to a city that means a lot to me, etc. It's hard to avoid similarities when writing hundreds of messages, but for the most part, all cards are completely unique. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/apps/433550/extras/thankYouNotes.gif Q: Is your hand alright? Kind of, yes :) Well, three of my fingers were red and felt bruised by the end, but luckily, they healed very fast. So a few HP points were lost, but a lot of XP was gained. Good quest overall. Lloyd approves: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33932460/05543d4c3b02bd11372733fc4ff471bd9ffbc391.png Q: How is your sanity meter? Excellent, why? {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33932460/d60e8a4a9369f701d1bf4685e00f30ea44c477aa.png Q: Did you level up? Actually, I did just now :D Guess my age. Thank you all again! I hope you all enjoy getting these as much as I enjoyed writing. Stay awesome! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33932460/1f55b9ceb15fd95e545a1f4a44260c4f22a9d31a.png Much love to all

Hand-written THANK YOU notes for ALL of you!

In my previous update I promised to do something special for you all, given how much support you've shown me. It's not just about the Webby Awards - it's about your support over the years (some of you were following DARQ way before it launched!). I don't mean to be unnecessarily dramatic, but without you, I'd likely be homeless right now (it's just the reality of my particular situation). I had several ideas in mind: Steam gift cards! But...I can't possibly afford giving everyone a gift card. DARQ Content Update! Actually, it will likely going to happen one way or another, although pulling it off will surely take some time since I'm working pretty much every waking hour on a new game. So what can I do now? Here's an idea...What if I were to send you a hand-written thank you note? This way, I can literally send one to everyone who wants one. People rarely get to connect this way because the Internet makes communication fast & easy...It's easy to say "thanks y'all!" online, but perhaps something gets lost when it's said like that...Hand-writing personalized messages takes time and effort - maybe that's why people do it so rarely. The only reason I want to do this is to show you that you all mean a lot to me and that I'm truly grateful. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33932460/4662f73430b4ccbaa3471064eefc63a4f98d7b8d.png The card is 5x7", glossy, shows the cover of DARQ and says "THANK YOU" on it. It will have a hand-written message on the back. If you want one, simply fill out this form & send it to [email protected]: FORM DOWNLOAD HERE Q&A IS SHIPPING WORLDWIDE? Yes, as long the USPS delivers to your location (which is almost every country in the world). PRIVACY? This is super important to me: I realize that in order for me to send you a Thank You note, I need to ask you for your shipping information. Please read this privacy policy - we tried to make it as short as possible. Here's a summary: Your personal information will only be used to send you the hand-written Thank You note. It will not be used for any other purpose. It will be deleted permanently as soon as the notes are shipped (May 30th, 2022). It will not be shared with anyone. No marketing emails, no newsletters - nothing. DEADLINE? You can send the form by May 21st, 11:59 PM Pacific Time. IS EVERYONE WHO REQUESTS A CARD GOING TO GET ONE? Yes, unless it can't be delivered for a reason beyond my control. ARE ALL THANK YOU NOTES GOING TO BE WRITTEN AND SENT BY YOU PERSONALLY? Yes.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

Cultured Vultures 80/100

« Even if it may take you quicker than an afternoon nap to dust off, Darq is an experience that horror fans won't want to miss. »

IGN 75/100

« Darq has some frustrating stealth encounters and an overabundance of jump scares, but those small blunders aren't enough to take away from the sense of wonder that comes from helping Lloyd navigate his nightmares. »

GameSpot 70/100

« As brief as it is, Darq does offer well-designed puzzles that are incredibly satisfying to solve on your first playthrough, each one building upon the last in intelligent ways. Darq never fully stumbles into frustration, even if it is tripped up slightly by underwhelming stealth sections. But its gloomy atmosphere and exceptional sound design enrapture you in its dreary world of dreams. Darq is full of great ideas that contribute to a tight and brief package, but it’s hard not to want for more once it’s done. »

GameOver.gr 70/100

« Considering that Darq is the work of –mainly- one person without prior knowledge in game development, it is nothing less than a highly commendable achievement. The dreamy aesthetic with the black and white filter is quite eye-catching and the perspective manipulation never stops to be enjoyable. If only it was just a little bit longer… »

Adventure Gamers 70/100

« DARQ’s rich atmosphere and clever central gameplay mechanic should overshadow any misgivings about its short length and narrative abstraction. »

The Overpowered Noobs 70/100

« Charming and twisted, DARQ is a fantastic and immersive experience that doesn’t overstay its welcome. »

Everyeye.it 65/100

« The game offers the user some very remarkable moments during the three hours required for completion, which allow the production to avoid falling into the abyss of banality. »

GameWatcher 55/100

« While there are moments where the spookiness clicks, like its hectic climax, the rest is forgettable. It will give a fright once in a while, but that shock quickly disappears. It’s the fluffy type of horror, something with the trappings but not the depth. It’s not an amateur production, but it is less eerie than it should be. Horror is subjective, but I cannot suggest DARQ for its scares. Playing it made me crave the more refined games in this genre. If you’re a streamer who needs a game to scream at, this will do fine. Just don’t be surprised if you forget about it the moment you turn it off. »

Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)

MzK 2/10

« İlk olarak 2D oyunları sevmiyorum. Oyun oynanış olarak hoşuma gitmedi ki keza hikayesi de. Dolayısıyla benlik değil. »

shayankabiri 8/10

« Very creative horror/platformer. Timed puzzles in a horror context were really terrifying and new. It's a little bit short (2 hours with DLCs) but it is really unique and amusing. If you like puzzle platformers, you should play this. »

VashloveNpeace 8/10

« First of all, I respect the creator for keeping promise on selling his game in steam instead of making it into an epic game exclusive. Thank You :D Secondly, for an indie game, it is worth my money and time to play the game. If you like something very psychological game like Little Nightmare and Limbo then this is a good game for you. I know the game is 3 hour long but worth the price you purchase. For their first game, this is considered quite polished and fun to play. Furthermore, the creator even decided to give free DLC as an appreciation for the support for the game. Thank you! »

Orakles 6/10

« Sometimes all you need is a really good story. Darq has no story, and there can be no greater shortcoming for an Adventure game! Maybe the game has a psychological theme, but you don't have enough time to uncover it because it lasts only 1-2 hours (even 15-20 minute DLC can't save the situation). The graphics and the level designs are admirable, the sounds are OK, the puzzles are mostly ordinary. But as I've said at the beginning, above all, Darq has not a memorable, unique story to tell. So, it's just a good looking but easily forgettable game. »

Eldarvoe 3/10

« Beware, most of the good user reviews of this game here and on Steam have nothing to do with the game itself but rather about some Steam vs. Epic fanboyism and if you read them you can clearly see that, I wish I knew that before. The game is really short (about 1 hour), which is not usually a bad thing when the game is good but in this case there's nothing really special that justifies that. »

p2ska 9/10

« cool little puzzle game with beautiful art style and some unnerving situations, wish it was longer - quality stuff. »

21grams 9/10

« Best indie game in years. I absolutely love the artstyle of it - which is always very important for me in indie games. The puzzles are very fun to solve and environment manipulation and how it is done it's not something I've experienced before - so this feels very refreshing and original. It's quite simple yet clever game and I enjoyed it a lot. Downsides - well it wasn't much for me, but for others it may be to short for the asked price. However, there is promise of a free dlc, which will add more levels. Solid 9/10 (a 9, because I haven't rated any game a 10 yet). »

MajesticSirloin 10/10

« Great Game, simple and fun. Just the kind of game you can pop out of your laptop while on the train. Props for Devs for being honorable and not succumbing to greed. Wish you the best of luck for your future endeavours. »
