Advanced Battlegrounds: The Future of Combat est paru le 27 décembre 2004 sur PC (Microsoft Windows). Il s'agit d'une réédition étendue de Chrome, développée avec le Chrome Engine, incluant de nouvelles missions solo non intégrées à la campagne, un tutoriel vidéo pour l'éditeur, un CD de bande originale et un tapis de souris. GameSpot a qualifié ce titre de simple reconditionnement du FPS de 2003 sans élément notable ou nouveau, tandis que Cheat Code Central a estimé qu'il pouvait offrir un certain intérêt à moins de vingt dollars, le décrivant comme rapide, amusant et totalement jetable. De son côté, un joueur sur Metacritic a apprécié un jeu amusant proposant différentes façons de remplir les objectifs, mais a regretté une intelligence artificielle frustrante, citant notamment des snipers ennemis dotés d'une précision de 99,9 % et capables de voir à travers le brouillard.

« Despite the fancy name, Advanced Battlegrounds is simply a repackaging of the 2003 first-person shooter "Chrome." There's nothing notable or new here that we could detect, aside from the fact that it's now been patched to address some of the stability issues from the original release. »

« Fun game with differents ways to complete objective but the AI can be frustrating... enemy sniper has X-ray vision with 99.9% accuracy. They see through fog, trees, rocks and never misses even if you zigzag cover from cover with the speed implant on. Shotgun enemies WILL snipe you from afar (100+ meters) and if you wield the shotgun, you can hit **** unless it's less than 5 meters from you. Well, I should say almost every enemies has 80+ % accuracy even when spraying bullets from the hip shooting from afar. You shoot from the hip, less than 5% of your bullets hits the target, even when they are right in front of you (less than 2 meters). »
