« Da sind wir in einem der sinnlosesten Kriege des 1. Weltkriegs. Zur Geschichte, die sich um eine deutsche Familie dreht, deren zwei Kinder in der Familie, ganz in der Tradition, euphorisch in die Schlacht stürzen. Aber alles kommt anders und nicht nur die zwei, sondern alle Menschen, die direkt an den Fronten verwickelt waren, wussten, wie verheerend und unwürdig dieser Krieg war. Aber da es vor allem in den hohen Kreisen um Stolz und Patriotismus keinen Weg zum Aufgeben gibt, sterben immer und immer mehr. In diesem Werk, was man schlecht als Spiel bezeichnen mag, wohl eher als cineastisches Werk. Da ist wohl das größte Problem, es ist kein Spiel und es ist auch kein Film, aber weiß sich gut zu inszenieren. Vor allem geht es um die Aufarbeitung des Traumas und der Verbrechen in dieser Zeit. Was mal in der Realität und mal als surreale Außenwelt erlebt wird und dabei wenig oder leichte Gameplay-Kost bietet. Negativ sind die realen (wenn auch nicht ganz) Momente an der Front. Hier passiert oft wenig, keine anderen Menschen, kein Genosse oder Gewehrfeuer. Klar gibt es Kreaturen, die vermutlich die Feinde sind, die sich unser Hauptprotagonist so vorstellt, weil Trauma, psychische Schäden. Dennoch ist mir das zu wenig, und wer, wenn nicht der Mensch selbst, wäre die schlimmere Kreatur gewesen? Ansonsten laufen wir scheiden Draht durch, lesen Briefe, die uns die Situation an der Front schildern. Aber genau das hätte ich lieber gesehen. Zwei Brüder, die um Ehre und ihre Bruderliebe zueinander kämpfen müssen. Schön sieht hier alles aus und am Anfang noch sehr atmosphärisch, weil Horror, später nimmt dies ab, weil der Horror nachlässt. Ich verstehe, was man erreichen wollte, und das kann die Geschichte. Für solche die überlebt haben gibt es am Ende nur noch die Würde und die Besinnung auf Vernunft, und das ist gut so. Leider lernen wir wohl nie aus unseren Fehlern, oder zumindest manche viele nicht.t. »
