Description (IGDB)

The Turing Test is a first person puzzler that explores the phenomena of consciousness and challenges the meaning of human intuition. Take control of Ava Turing, an engineer for the International Space Agency (ISA), and progress through a narrated story of introspection and morality whilst uncovering the hidden mysteries of Europa.

Histoire (IGDB)

In the far future, engineer Ava Turing is one of several members of a research team sent via the International Space Agency (ISA) to excavate Jupiter's moon Europa. While Ava remains in cyrogenic slumber, the other team members are woken and travel to the moon to set up their base and begin conducting their studies, with Ava scheduled to wake once the base is completed. Sometime later, Ava is awoken by the Technical Operations Machine (T.O.M.), an artificial intelligence that monitors the project. T.O.M. tells Ava that her crewmates are in danger and she needs to go down there to help them out. She quickly sets out in a lander and enters the base on Europa. T.O.M. quickly recognizes that the base's internal configuration has changed from their records, whereby to progress further into the complex, Ava must complete various tests (designed as the puzzles in game). As Ava gets deeper in the complex, T.O.M. determines some of the team members are already dead and the others need their help, urging Ava to move faster. As the tests get harder, T.O.M. realizes that these are designed to be solved by a combination of human and artificial intelligence, a manner similar to that of the actual Turing test. They enter an area where one of the remaining crew-members, Sarah, warns Ava over the communication systems that she is actually being controlled by T.O.M. due to a special chip implanted in her hand when they left for the mission. Sarah directs Ava to a Faraday cage, which temporarily frees Ava of the control from T.O.M. However, T.O.M. manages to convince Ava that the two of them need to continue to work together to save their colleagues. Though angered by the intrusion of T.O.M. into her body, Ava continues onward. T.O.M. eventually reveals that the Europa ground team had found a microorganism within the depths of the moon that could be used to infinitely regenerate DNA; this could potentially make humans immortal, but also infinitely regenerate bacteria and viruses. When ISA learned of this discovery, they ordered T.O.M. to take whatever actions needed to make sure the Europa team could never return to Earth, initially by taking actions such as trying to starve them to death or lock them outside the base, but eventually by using the hand chip implants to control them. The surface crew realized they were being controlled, and those that did not die from T.O.M.'s actions found a way to rid the chip from their body, including in one case severing their entire arm. With no way to control the Europa crew, ISA ordered T.O.M. to wake Ava and send her to prevent the others from returning. Eventually completing the last of the tests set up by the surface crew, Ava finds Sarah in person, and she offers to remove the hand chip from Ava; Ava agrees. The two realize the only way to get off Europa is to stop T.O.M. and they begin to disable his databases. At this point, the player takes control of T.O.M. and one of his sentry weapons, which they can either use to kill Sarah and Ava, assuring that the organism will never leave Europa, or do nothing, eventually leading to the end of T.O.M. and allowing Ava and Sarah to escape.

Have You Played The Turing Test?

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. The Turing Test is an experiment where you determine if an AI can pass itself off as human. You get a person to talk to computers and humans, over text, and see if they can determine which is which. The idea is interesting, but flawed. The Turing Test is also a first-person puzzler made by Bulkhead Interactive, and it is the same. (more…)

Square Enix slash Steam prices for the weekend

It’s the weekend, or at least after work-hours for most on a Friday, so might as well pick up something to demolish your free time. Square Enix are running a rather nice sale on Steam for the weekend, cutting 50% off the price on most of their bigger games, and slapping deeper discounts on a lot of more obscure stuff, including their old Eidos catalogue. Check out the sale page here, and peruse below for a couple oddball recommendations (and some boringly normal stuff) from me. (more…)

Wot I Think: The Turing Test

Oh my goodness, if The Turing Test could have existed in a world that had never seen Portal nor The Talos Principle, it would be lauded, famous beyond belief. Then again, in a world without Portal and The Talos Principle, Bulkhead Interactive would never have made The Turing Test, so it s a little academic. As it is, we ve got here an often smart, never quite brilliant first-person puzzle game that neatly fits into the same category. Here’s wot I think: …

Avis des critiques et joueurs

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

GameGrin 95/100

« An excellent game visually, mechanically and with it’s strong story and acting, this should be in your libraries. »

Washington Post 90/100

« It should make one think about the flexibility of the mind and what it means to consider one’s species the apex of creation. »

CGMagazine 85/100

« If you're hankering for a first person puzzler and/or you're a sci-fi nut, then you will probably love The Turing Test. »

Game Informer 85/100

« The Turing Test joins Portal as another great puzzle game featuring an ominous A.I. entity. The puzzles will make you think, but not as much as the story’s wonderful exploration of life. »

GameStar 84/100

« A philosophical-scientific story meets intelligent puzzles - with a better end of the story this could have been a real masterpiece. »

Vandal 80/100

« The Turing Test is clever and well designed, but it lacks some variety, since it feels repetitive after a few hours. Still, a very interesting challenge for your brain. »

Hardcore Gamer 80/100

« Whether you’re in it for the gameplay or find yourself drawn in by the looming mystery that steadily simmers over in due course, The Turing Test (minus the occasionally hard-to-decipher audio) is a smartly-structured and delicately-arranged puzzle game that knows its boundaries and leaves it to the player to fill in the missing gaps. »

The Digital Fix 80/100

« A sleek, shiny FPS puzzler that overcomes the limitations of its gameplay with some accessible conundrums and an interesting tale. »

Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)

anoubris 8/10

« The puzzles were fun and of medium difficulty. I was really intrigued by the story, the dialogue and the little details in the environment. The graphics were ok. There were no subtitles for the audio logs which was a bit annoying. Overall i would recommend the game to puzzle game lovers. »

« The Turing Test is a puzzle game strongly inspired by the Portal series. Each level consists basically of a series of test chambers, where at the end of each one you get some clues about the plot. The story is good, but it won’t surprise those who are into science fiction works. Although the plot is more down-to-earth and makes sense, the existence of so many test chambers doesn’t (if you ignore this fact, your experience won’t be harmed). The graphics still stand out in 2025 (though there are a few details that are a bit outdated). The soundtrack is good, but melancholic. The mandatory puzzles are clever without being impossible (but for those who played Portal, they might find them a bit less creative), while the optional puzzles are more challenging (some even deviate from the game’s established patterns, which could leave you confused and frustrated). There's very little variety in the environments, which makes the experience a bit dull over time. The AI guiding you through the plot is somewhat monotone, but raises philosophical and intriguing questions. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to fans of the genre. »

Brunosangi 5/10

« Puzzles were decently challenging to an extent but I didn't feel that much satisfaction solving them by the end of the game »

MzK 2/10

« Daha farklı bir yapım bekliyordum. İçeriği okumdan, araştırmadan alınca böyle oluyor. »

adamflame7 7/10

« Another one of those "portal-esque" puzzle games. You talk with someone, solve puzzles, and there's a little bit of story. The puzzles are decently well designed and it is overall entertaining enough. A decent game to kill a few hours, though I would pick up at a discount with a runtime of only about 4-5 hours. »

zaratti 8/10

« This game is pretty fun. There are a lot of interesting mechanics used in solving the puzzles. The story is interesting and well written. I like the visuals, the artstyle is really cool. The game is pretty short but the endings are interesting. The little side puzzles you can do were also interesting and make you think outside the box. As I mentioned before, the mechanics are interesting and varied throughout the game, especially towards the end. Overall, I recommend this game to anyone that enjoys puzzle games. »

Soullex 7/10

« Gayet güzel bulamacaları var. Biraz daha zorlu olsa daha güzel olacakmış. »

dotrem 3/10

« I played 2 hours, made 3 chapters, and it was boring. Game not funny, you need no brain activity or reaction to solve puzzles. You just walk, do switches, press buttons, listening boring as fk monologues. Btw people still playing Portal 2. »
