Crusader: DE - Update & DLC 1 Reveals

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn98HHTPl4k With your help Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition has charged into the breach and emerged from its launch victorious! The response from fans has been nothing short of stellar and we're pleased to reveal some of our initial content plans in today's developer update! While we're still working hard to add features, fixes and tweaks that players have been requesting (See our extensive v1.03 Patch Notes for the latest changes), we're keeping this momentum going by revealing new details of gameplay content players can look forward to in the coming months. With additional updates like v1.03 and more coming before then... https://clan.akamai.steamstatic.com/images/32942208/7e913c19b867710e01e146ce956448016cbc3536.png Our first major ‘Autumn’ update will arrive in two parts, a free content update and an optional paid DLC. This will introduce The Crocodile, a brand new computer-controlled opponent with his own tactics, castle design, army and of course, snappy personality! A wizened lord of the marshes, The Crocodile is a bitter cruel fellow, driven beyond sanity by envy of his rival lords. Players will encounter The Crocodile across a new five mission economic campaign, in addition to being playable in skirmish mode (And in case you’re wondering - Yes, the campaign has actual crocodiles too!) https://clan.akamai.steamstatic.com/images/32942208/7557f64cf23973225f79db991c093f05eb189374.png While there will be some degree of combat to contend with in the economic campaign, the ultimate goal and thus victory will be decided by mastery of the game’s various economic industries and castle-life mechanics. The free component of the Autumn Update will be capped off by the inclusion of three new maps - One for Skirmish, Freebuild and Multiplayer. These will release alongside our first DLC featuring two new CPU commanders in the form of The Canary and The Trader, as well as a new 9 mission ‘Sands of Time’ skirmish trail. Players can expect military scenarios will test their strategic prowess and skills of siegecraft, as they wage war against these new tricky CPU characters. Fear not, more about these new adversaries and their attributes will be revealed in due time! https://clan.akamai.steamstatic.com/images/32942208/59e21472a7555da6a8e316f878fe973f43fe3f13.png After Crusader: DE’s fantastic launch, we are determined to keep pushing further with fixes, content updates and gameplay improvements inbound, to truly make this Definitive Edition a game worthy of the Crusader name. Thanks for playing and stay tuned for more updates coming soon! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3024040/Stronghold_Crusader_Definitive_Edition/

The tremendous outpouring of love has pushed us to make this definitive edition of the fan-favourite Crusader the best it possible can be, adding more features, fixes and content than anyone could have expected. We can't wait to see how fans take this reimagined classic and make it their own. Every bit of feedback across our demos has helped to inform the final game, allowing us to craft this expanded remaster hand-in-hand with the community. Stronghold Crusader: DE - Roadmap Reveal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71UzpnLOH7U Updates and DLC To Add New Lords, Customisation and More! Good Day, Sire! Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is now less than two weeks from launch, so what better time than now to share all there is to know about the game's post-release plans! Following the positive reception of the two public demos and in keeping with Stronghold: DE’s post-launch, we're announcing two major post-launch content updates for Crusader: DE. These will take the form of an Autumn and a Winter Update, both releasing this year alongside two paid DLCs. https://clan.akamai.steamstatic.com/images/32942208/8f40990ce7a71421b643639197584c99a4027f26.png The free initial Autumn Update will feature a series-first economic campaign as well as a brand new CPU commander. Five missions will challenge players to complete a series of economic objectives, leaning heavily into our city builder gameplay mechanics. The new computer-controlled character can meanwhile also be played as friend or foe, selectable in the game’s offline skirmish and online multiplayer modes. Last but not least, three new maps will also be added, one for skirmish, another in Free Build mode and a balanced multiplayer battlefield. Following this content drop, the game’s free Winter Update will add perhaps the greatest player request so far... The ability to customise CPU opponents, castles and campaigns! Players will be able to create the rivals or allies of their dreams (or nightmares), design their defences and then place all of this into custom mission scenarios created by the community. https://clan.akamai.steamstatic.com/images/32942208/5313cab036a111f6c5b495987e9b8564aad4fdd7.png If that wasn’t enough, the Winter Update continues this community-first trend with the addition of a second co-op trail of missions. The 10 missions found in the first co-op trail not enough for you? Well, dare to brave the challenges of this new trail and you just might come out victorious. Once again a new map pack of three maps will be added to the overall pool, keeping things fresh for players after launch. Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition launches soon on July 15th. Wishlist now to be the first to know when it goes live! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3024040/Stronghold_Crusader_Definitive_Edition/

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

Times Online 80/100

« This time around there are more units to build as well as new traps and siege equipment to help out on the battlefield. »

PC Zone UK 78/100

« Despite my own selfish reservations, the switch to an attack focus is a very good thing. [Christmas 2006, p.78] »

PC Gamer UK 72/100

« Sadly, regular combat again proves Stronghold's downfall. Units require extreme babysitting. [Dec 2006, p.100] »

PC Format 72/100

« Solid and full of promise, but it never quite delivers the goods. [Christmas 2006, p.96] »

VideoGamer 70/100

« A thoroughly enjoyable game with a deliciously retro feel, despite the somewhat improved (but still lack lustre) graphics and the adorably camp accents. »

AceGamez 70/100

« The campaigns are vast and varied, with interesting stories to hold you attention, while the three Legends Trails offer up even more varied missions with a much stronger emphasis on castle building and besieging. »

GameZone 68/100

« I was disappointed to see the developers add the fantasy elements, which threw me a bit once I started playing. The game is still entertaining and with the map editor and online play I still feel this is a decent game. »

GamesRadar+ 60/100

« It may take a pretty thick suit of armor to fully embrace Legends but if you can stomach many, many defeats you'll be rewarded with the particle-laden powers of witches, wizards, magical nights and fire-breathing dragons. »

« Jedna od boljih igara da nema bagove i da je novija bila bi 10 sigurno, stv je bilo zanimljivo igrati je :D »

IamNader 8/10

« It is not as good as the classic STRONGHOLD series but it is better than new games in this franchise - 8/10 »

uaigor13 10/10

« Not bad RTS strategy with fantasy personages, and more gameplay features... »

ChosenUndead99 10/10

« I have probably played Stronghold Legends for 100's of hours. I find the large battles with a mixture of fantasy units are a lot of fun and castle sieges are also enjoyable. »

Mr_Bismark 6/10

« An unusual change of direction for the Stronghold series. Well first off the the "easy" and "hard" are very enjoyable to play as with the new units. I criticize the bugs and the sudden increase cost to build certain resources in the game. The bugs you should expect are occasional save files that fail to load and crash although it could be just my lousy computer. Resources now cost twice or more than in the 2nd Stronghold which can sometimes be a challenge to set up a economy in certain game modes. The medium campaign feels harder due to the amount of Frost Giants and how powerful they actually are. Lastly I slam the balance of game play with new units as said before the medium campaign requires many armoured or heavy ranged units to deal with Frost Giants that tear down walls in a snap. A certain unit on the so called "evil" side can be sometimes be hard to deal with as they can "convert" weak units into joining their side and require armoured units to deal with them efficiently. Overall this game is mediocre at best in my opinion. »

Ircher_the_Game 5/10

« Its okay, I still think that its graphics are way too fancy; simplicity is sometimes key - Crusader and the original had simplistic graphics that ran well on my Windows 7 netbook. I do like some of the gameplay, but I hate the complex fancy graphics. Get it only if you got a high-power computer. »

Bionic-Reviewer 9/10

« Stronghold Legends is an interesting direction for Stronghold. The emphasis has always been divided between constructing a working kingdom and forming a powerful army. However, Legends shifts this focus onto combat. Action does, however, remain the same as it's predecessor, with a slight twist or two. They scrapped Stronghold 2's Spearmen and Armed Peasant units and replaced them with a unit called Men-At Arms, who function much like Stronghold 2's Outlaws. They also added Fantasy units, such as Dragons, Mages, and the Knights of the Round Table. Each of these warriors have special abilities. These make sieges much more interesting than in previous versions, as combining the abilities available to you offers some unique strategies that you can't replicate with plain old wood and steel. Economically, however, the game suffers. It did away with the Crime and Punishment system (my favorite part of castle management in SH2), as well as various other factors such as Plague and whatnot. Jousts and Minstrels and what not are also relegated to Random Events. This makes Castle Management much more simple, as supplying your populace with enough food and a Church or Inn means that you don't need to worry about your home when you're marching off to war (which, again, is the main focus of this entry in the series). However, as the delicate balance of army-building and kingdom management is what makes previous Stronghold games shine, it feels more like a spinoff (albeit a very fun one). In conclusion, this is a great game for anyone who likes medieval/fantasy themed battles, but if you REALLY prefer economic management in a Stronghold game, this may not be the best of options. »

Shperax 10/10

« Best Stronghold out of the series. This is the closest game i could find to BFME2 so its the Best RTS on the market right now. The other stronghold games were too much Sim and not enough focused on the combat. This is the one that focus's on the Combat and it does it well. You can still find matches online although its better to just play with your friends anyway. There is a ton of player created maps as usual for stronghold. »
