Sorti le 21 janvier 2009 sur PlayStation 3 et Xbox 360, Skate 2 est un jeu de course, de simulation et de sport développé par EA Black Box et édité par Electronic Arts. L'intrigue se déroule cinq ans après la disparition mystérieuse du skateur, dans un contexte où « le désastre-trop-gnarly-pour-être-nommé » a ravagé San Vanelona. La reconstruction de la ville, rebaptisée New San Vanelona, a été confiée à la société Mongocorp, dont la protection zélée de la propriété privée a étouffé la scène locale ; le joueur doit donc rebâtir sa carrière et redonner vie à cet environnement.
Côté mécanique, le titre double le nombre de figures disponibles par rapport à son prédécesseur et introduit la possibilité de descendre de sa planche pour déplacer des objets et créer de nouvelles lignes. Une équipe de locaux peut également être sollicitée pour faciliter la progression. Pour venir à bout de l'histoire principale, il faut compter environ 17 heures et demie, tandis qu'une complétion intégrale demande près de 66 heures.
La presse a globalement salué le travail du studio, le jeu obtenant une note agrégée de 83,73. Gaming Age le qualifie d'« achat obligatoire pour les fans du premier » et de titre à essayer pour les amateurs de Tony Hawk, estimant qu'il s'agit du « seul jeu en ville » dans son genre. Gameplayer loue une « brillante » suite qui injecte intelligemment un nouvel ensemble de mouvements dans le modèle original. Du côté des joueurs, les avis Metacritic soulignent la qualité de la franchise, l'un la considérant comme un « chef-d'œuvre » dont il a «thoroughly enjoyed all of the games», tandis qu'un autre prévenait simplement de la présence de spoilers dans son commentaire.

« Skate 2 is an incredible sequel to Skate. It's one of those games I will forever cherish. Featuring some of my favorite features like sponsors, Annals of Meat, proper ragdoll physics, and create a spot. The map may not be entirely creative compared to Skate's map, but the addition of walking off your board is a whole new experience. Skate 2 is a game I will constantly recommend to any skating game lover. If you like Skate or even Skate 3, you will love Skate 2. »

The first problem with the game is it's clunky movement when off-board or moving things **** feels **** physics are off,with random moments when your skater just bails for no **** on-board controls are great however. Hall Of Meat is in here,and the 4-player Party Play mode is a lot of fun too. The graphics are OK,though the framerate suffers from severe drops which are at a detriment gameplay-wise. Sound design is good,with great humour,though the soundtrack is atrocious. Overall,Skate 2 is a disappointing game that barely gets to **** you want a game in this franchise,go out and get Skate 3,which is superior to this in every aspect. »
