Red Dead Online wasn't a missed opportunity in the eyes of Take-Two's boss, but I'd say it's proof that following the GTA train doesn't guarantee the world
As Rockstar gear up to release GTA 6 (at least on consoles), spare a thought for Red Dead Online. The multiplayer element of Red Dead Redemption 2 had its steady flow of major update-carrying stagecoaches stopped all the way back in 2022, with its makers explicitly citing a desire to shift those development resources over to that next entry in the stealy wheels series. There've been a few moments in the years since when Red Dead Online has looked a bit like it might bounce back to prominence, but nothing substantial in that vein has materialised. It essentially had a solid three year run, but failed to come close to grasping the reins from its older inspiration, GTA Online. Red Dead Online: Blood Money Out Now
Experience civilized crime in Frontier America with robberies, shakedowns, and more new lawless activities in Red Dead Online: Blood Money. Blood Money delivers a raft of new criminal possibilities available to everyone across the entire world of Red Dead Online, with each step leading to the potential of greater rewards. Head to the manicured streets on the west side of Saint Denis and acquaint yourself with Guido Martelli, right hand man to the notorious mob boss Angelo Bronte, to begin your journey taking on Crimes and Opportunities as they arise. Martelli is eager to recover a unique commodity known as Capitale – a system of exchange designed for the Bronte family’s more sensitive business dealings — which has found its way into the hands of the various cutthroats and villainous scum littered across the frontier. The value of Capitale for Martelli and the Bronte family, depends upon its scarcity. Introduce yourself to the members of Martelli’s ring to uncover any potential crimes for the taking — if you’re yet to cross paths with these morally bankrupt associates, you may be asked to prove your worth before they trust you with recovering Capitale. Visit these particularly questionable characters: Anthony Foreman — reckless leader of the Foreman Brothers gang, found at Radley’s House in Rhodes or frequenting Doyle’s Tavern in Saint DenisJames Langton — a famed bounty hunter of ill repute based in New Austin. James can be tracked down in Hennigan’s Stead or at his cabin by Lake Don Julio.Sean Macguire — temporarily separated from his gang, Sean is a serial thief and murderer. Visit Sean at Great Plains or in Tall Trees.Joe — closely associated with other lowlifes such as Micah, Cleet, and Samson Finch, Joe is set up in Osman Grove, New Hanover Today’s update adds three multi-part Crime Contracts — The Railroad Contract, The Jeb Phelps Contract, and The Bluewater Contract — each with their own story to unravel. For those looking to lie, cheat, and steal their way to riches, you can also take on other dirty deeds. And as you traverse the plains, keep your eyes peeled for Homestead and Camp Robberies. During these exploits, you’ll amass Capitale for Martelli. Trade these private bonds to henchmen in Martelli’s network who will in return for your efforts dispatch you on the first of three, larger scale Opportunities. Martelli is eager to stifle a rising Lemoyne senator whose political ambitions have hampered the Bronte family’s far-reaching operations. Damage the senator by stealing three Jewels of the West, the first of which is in pursuit of the Covington Emerald, an ill-gotten heirloom coveted by black hats far and wide, being transported by rail on a heavily guarded train. Stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for information on more Crime Contracts, as well as two additional Opportunities to come in the weeks ahead. QUICK DRAW CLUB The Quick Draw Club is a new series of rapid-fire passes in consecutive installments over the months ahead. Completing this Opportunity on the Ruthless difficulty this week or beyond will also unlock the Pacific Union cap for purchase from Madam Nazar. Red Dead Online A New Source of Employment introduces new high-risk Telegram missions
Rockstar has been pretty busy between the online components of its most popular games. Red Dead Online in particular is now living live as a standalone experience as well as part of Red Dead Redemption 2, and so Rockstar Games is aiming to supply the goods to make an online cowpoke’s adventures more worthwhile. That continues this month with new content in Red Dead Online’s A New Source of Employment, which focuses in on new missions for solo players with rewarding opportunities. Rockstar announced the Red Dead Online A New Source of Employment content via press release and the Rockstar Newswire on February 16, 2021. A New Source of Employment features three new missions for solo players that can be obtained via Telegrams found at either any Post Office or any player’s Camp. The missions can be played regardless of Rank or Role as well. Each mission will take players across the Red Dead Online frontier and can be played repeatedly with increases in difficulty and higher payouts on each run. Each of the new Telegram missions in Red Dead Online's A New Source of Employment will provide unique solo opportunities full of risk and rewards. The New Source of Employment content features three Telegram missions featuring a number of jobs such as stealing a prized horse from a deal, getting it away from the hot pursuit of parties involved, and taming the magnificent beast. There's also a gem heist at the expense of a high-ranking regional official and a do-or-die wagon escort mission featuring some questionable cargo. Though each mission focuses on a solo experience, they’ll each provide rewarding opportunities in their own way. With Red Dead Online having recently launched as a standalone experience, Rockstar is working harder than ever to make it as rewarding as that of Grand Theft Auto Online. The game has expanded Frontier Pursuits with content like the Naturalist and the new Bounty Hunters license to name a few. With A New Source of Employment, it looks like we can look forward to Rockstar expanding opportunities for players that like to ride solo in its wild west. « Whether you're a wild mustang wanderer in free roam or a hardcore PvPer, RDO delivers pretty amazing fun. I'd be remiss, however, if I didn't mention that it's still a “mostly what you make of it” online experience. New content comes in dribs and drabs. And when you look over yonder at GTA V (where players are getting casinos and all sorts of cool things) it's clear that RDO needs better and more frequent support. Hopefully Rockstar can be spurred into that action, because what's already here is well worth saddling up for. »

« From the same developers as GTA came Red Dead Redemption 2 with its counterpart multiplayer game of Red Dead online. It has the same online concept along-side story as GTA 5. The game is set at the end of the cowboy era when outlaws were being hunted down and eradicated. Its inspiration is an online version or is sister games Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, as well as taking inspiration from the GTA games. The game and concept fit into a rather niche category meaning that there is no other real competitor in the setting and style of the game. This made it easier to market as it was an unused but interesting topic for a game. The fun never stops in this game. It is constantly messing about with friends and Randoms in a cowboy setting and getting up to no good. You are able to do things like, Gambling, Blood money missions, Help the community, build a camp and complete the tasks for your role that you selected. The learning curve of Red Dead online is not steep at all; they controls are very simple to understand and you get used to them very quickly. And the difficulty of the missions can be challenging but once you level yourself up and improve your gear as well as get an understanding of the mission it become much simpler. Although the PvP can be a struggle due to the over levelled players, However, the co-op and other game styles are all incredible and extremely fun for the players. In the game you are a cowboy at the end of the era, you reach the county and are looking for work and a new purpose and a way of settling down and moving along. Red Dead online doesn’t have a story. This is because it comes free when you buy the story of Red Dead Redemption 2. This freedom allows you to infinitely play and improve through contracts and multiplayer missions as well as the roles mechanic that you can change your choice in every save. As this game is a Rockstar game, they allow for all kinds of mods in the game in order to appeal to everyone and to keep people playing due to the infinite possibilities of what can be changed or added to the game. Red Dead is available as disc or digital download but must be installed alongside Red Dead Redemption 2 and stores in up to 118 to 185 GB meaning it is just over your average storage for a game. However, the quality of game you receive make the amount of storage look miniscule in the near realistic graphics that Rockstar offers. The audio in the game is so accurate that it makes you feel as if you are really there, everything down to the raspiness in people's voce to the sounds that a deer makes when it is squirming on the floor is so realistic and immersive. As well as that, the music elements of the game are also amazing; they really balance the feel of the time period alongside the modern-day view on the game. It is £60 as standard but the game is regularly involved in sales and promotions due to its popularity as well as its age meaning that you can easily get the game for around £15-£20. There were a couple of bugs that were in game on release however Rockstar have been good and patched them as soon as they were found and they still maintain the game just in case any new problems occur. Summary Considering all the positives of the game that there are, I want to give this game a 10. However, looking at it properly there are some problems and things that could cause this game to not be enjoyable. Given this I have given it a 9 and I think this is fair as it is a great game in a great series however there are just some miscellaneous things that just put it under a 10. »

« I **** hate this **** ass lame excuse of an online game so much, there is so little good to say about this. The only good thing about this game are the short lived story missions. It’s so **** grindy and boring. With pretty much nothing but the repetitive free roam missions and crimes, and the sorry-ass minigames. Both of which get stale after like 1 hour of playing. The map is also insanely empty and stale, with nearly nothing to do. Now compare this to a game like gta online, with great gameplay, loads of content, and also still gets updated to this day. It’s amazing, with tons of things to do properties to buy, and heist to pull off, nearly never gets old. This just feels like a complete letdown to that, you can barely do any of those in red dead online, and to top that all off, Rockstar abandoned it. This is nothing more than a pile of **** that could’ve been an amazing and creative open world West West shooter similar to gta online. **** this game. »
