Description (IGDB)

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the sequel to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and a prequel to the original Metal Gear. The game has a complex story with long cut-scene sequences, but there are fewer and they are shorter compared to earlier Metal Gear Solid titles. Most of the gameplay mechanics introduced in Ground Zeroes are carried over: it is still an action game and stealth oriented but replaces the linear corridor design from most earlier titles with large open world environments that offer the player unrestricted freedom for the approach. The world has now a real-time day and night cycle and various weather effects that influence enemy behaviour, visibility and sound. Sabotaging or destroying certain structures can also influence other parts of the map.

Histoire (IGDB)

The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan has brought a new edge to the Cold War, and in 1984, a one-eyed man with a prosthetic arm appears in the country. Those who know him call him Snake; the legendary mercenary who was once swept from the stage of history and left in a coma by American private intelligence network Cipher. Snake is accompanied by Ocelot, an old friend who saved him from attack when he finally awoke. Now, Snake’s former partner Kazuhira Miller is being held by the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Snake must undertake a solo mission to rescue Miller and prove to the world that the legendary mercenary is not dead and gone. That first step will lead to a path of vengeance against the very Cipher that slaughtered so many of Snake’s men, and to a battle that will embroil the whole world... What started in Ground Zeroes... must finish with "V."

Finally, you can play Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes inside Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain thanks to this mod

Metal Gear Solid 5 famously released in two highly disproportionate parts, with its short (but highly replayable) prologue Ground Zeroes releasing roughly a year before the full-fat Phantom Pain... Read more.

On another timeline, we could have had a Metal Gear Solid first-person shooter made with Vince Zampella

t today's DICE Summit, a gathering of industry veterans paid tribute to Call of Duty and Titanfall co-creator Vince Zampella, who died in December. Joining the likes of Todd Howard, Randy Pitchford and Ted Price was Hideo Kojima, who, according to Gamefile, sought advice from Zampella when founding his own studio Kojima Productions... This wild mod for Metal Gear Solid 5 massively expands its Subsistence system and makes enemies learn new tactics within missions rather than across them

Metal Gear Solid 5 isn't exactly short of options for approaching its open-ended stealth scenarios. But encouraging players to use every tool at their disposal can be difficult once they've found a loadout that they like. Its Subsistence rule was one of Kojima's solutions to this, allowing players to re-enter previous missions without a specific loadout and forcing them to scavenge weapons and equipment on the fly... Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

IGN 100/100

« There have certainly been sandbox action games that have given me a bigger world to roam, or more little icons to chase on my minimap, but none have pushed me to plan, adapt, and improvise the way this one does. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain doesn’t just respect my intelligence as a player, it expects it of me, putting it in league that few others occupy. »

GameSpot 100/100

« There has never been a game in the series with such depth to its gameplay, or so much volume in content. The best elements from the past games are here, and the new open-world gameplay adds more to love on top. When it comes to storytelling, there has never been a Metal Gear game that's so consistent in tone, daring in subject matter, and so captivating in presentation. The Phantom Pain may be a contender for one of the best action games ever made, but is undoubtedly the best Metal Gear game there is. »

3DJuegos 100/100

« Kojima redefines the stealth-action genre showing a V for Victory. Good decisions, clear direction, deep gameplay, extremely polished... MGSV writes one of the most important chapters in the Metal Gear franchise. »

God is a Geek 100/100

« This isn’t just the best Metal Gear game, nor is it just the best stealth game, it is one of the best games ever made. »

Telegraph 100/100

« Perhaps MGSV’s best quality is how in pulling gameplay to the foreground and letting much of the exposition remain optional, it opens it up to be enjoyed by people who have in the past been put off by its weirdness, serving as both the perfect entry point and a satisfying conclusion. MGSV takes the best of a great series and creates a series’ best in the process. »

Gameblog.fr 100/100

« Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is not a game like any other. The kind of game that respects the intelligence of players, with almost complete freedom, without visible guide. Both giddy and capricious, he carried on his shoulders the heavy responsibility to end the saga. In addition to profoundly redefining the infiltration genre and changing its type of narration, it offers the best gameplay in the saga. At the time of the conclusion, more subtle and direct as usual, Hideo Kojima was able to speak to the players, and most importantly leave a unique legacy in the history of gaming. The kind of eternal diamond that will accompany you throughout your life as a gamer. Big Boss, thank you for this last trip. »

Meristation 100/100

« Metal Gear Solid V will transcend videogame history as the best episode in the series; packed with tons of contents, a mature and dark tone, memorable characters, villains and final bosses, intense missions and packed with surprises. The Phantom Pain is Hideo Kojima's ultimate tribute to Metal Gear. A Hideo Kojima Game. »

PlayStation LifeStyle 100/100

« Incredibly, unbelievably, what we have here is a nearly perfect finale to the Metal Gear franchise. I truly believe that The Phantom Pain is where Kojima always envisioned he would take the franchise. This is personalized, open-world infiltration at its finest. »

pragatrana 10/10

« Metal gear solid 5 phantom pain is an all timer for me. Greatest of all time. I have played 100 hr's plus as solid snake. Just simply best game ever. »

Mr_HedgeHog 8/10

« A wonderful game that will never be finished due to Kojima’s departure. The swan song of the MGS franchise. »

AlkisS07 4/10

« The end is really bad and has terrible missions. They are the same as before but 3 times harder. They don't include anything in the story (which is just another phantasy story by itself nothing interesting), and it seems that the developers ran out of ideas. And if you don't finish them, you will not finish the game. As for the gameplay its good but not something special . A mediocre game at the most . »

StickmanYT_2006 10/10

« This game was very good and fun! I try to play this game correctly and practime sometimes but that was cool! »

sheldon642 10/10

« A great venture into Open world for Kojima. The innovation is great. The story feels unpolished compared to to the classic Kojima style narrative. The classic steal mechanics that Kojima games are known for are still as prevelant as ever! »

Utame 8/10

The_D4RknesS 9/10

« This game is incredible, but very difficult because the enemies’ AI is still insane even today. Other than that, it’s a fun game, with amazing animations, beautiful graphics, a great sniper, and a cute, loyal dog. »

Agent008 9/10

« "The Phantom Pain" is a great action game. It is the first (and only) open-world "Metal Gear Solid" title, but the final one developed by Hideo Kojima. The "sandbox" gameplay is terrific and the cutscenes are superb. But the story leaves much to be desired since it's mainly told through audio tapes. In that regard, MGS V has the exact opposite problem of MGS IV which had a great story, but very little gameplay. Kojima's decision to downplay the cutscenes, omit the oddball humor and replace David Hayter with Kiefer Sutherland makes this MGS feel different from previous entries. It's also strange that each mission concludes with an end credits sequence as if it were a television episode. Still, this is a must play for series fans. I'd rate it with a 9.3 out of 10. »
