Sorti le 22 janvier 2014, Insurgency est un jeu de tir tactique développé et publié par New World Interactive, fonctionnant sur le moteur Source et disponible sur PC, Mac et Linux. Ce titre, suite d'un mod primé, propose un combat rapproché intense en multijoueur et coopératif où la survie de l'équipe repose sur la sécurisation de points stratégiques et la destruction des approvisionnements ennemis, dans une expérience compétitive et mortelle mêlant gameplay à une vie et action prolongée. Le jeu comprend plus de 40 armes avec divers accessoires et un comportement réaliste sans viseur, 16 cartes jouables de jour comme de nuit, 7 modes multijoueur jusqu'à 32 joueurs et 5 modes coopératifs, ainsi qu'un système d'escouades basé sur des classes asymétriques et une communication 3D VOIP.
La presse a salué le titre : Hooked Gamers a ainsi parlé d'un « souffle d'air frais » susceptible d'être joué assidûment, tandis qu'Eurogamer Italy a relevé une courbe d'apprentissage abrupte masquant un FPS bien conçu pour les amateurs de tactique et de travail d'équipe. Certains joueurs regrettent toutefois un jeu peu adapté à leur goût en raison de son orientation multijoueur et de joueurs expérimentés difficilement abordables pour les novices, ou encore un plaisir limité sur les serveurs standards faute de serveurs communautaires variés. L'accueil critique s'établit à un score Metacritic de 74 pour une note agrégée de 73,48, le jeu étant proposé au prix de 12,49 euros.
