The game was once one of my favorites rts, but the blame isn"t for the game itself but for the fact that apparently on high or mid end pc, the game just can't be launched. It keep crashing after the 343 and Microsoft logo and i couldnt even see the M...

Nearly 20 years ago, the makers of Age of Empires tried to make a Halo MMO, and then the studio closed: 'I still feel like no-one has really done the action MMO I see in my mind'

Rob Fermier has enjoyed a fascinating career, with his name attached to an impressive list of games, including Thief, System Shock and Age of Mythology. He co-founded C Prompt Games in 2018, the studio responsible for digital board game Heretic Operative and the Paradox-published 4X, Millennia. But between those periods he worked on one of the few actually good console real-time strategy games... Read more.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

GameShark 100/100

« The differences between Halo Wars and a more traditional PC RTS are distinct. Yes, the controls aren’t as precise nor are there a great diversity of units, structures, or resources—but that's the point. By approaching the game as fundamentally different, the resulting design feels native to the console controller. In the end Halo Wars just plain works, and is a huge step in the development of real time strategy gaming on the consoles. »

AceGamez 100/100

« Halo Wars is an absolute triumph, every bit as well designed and beautifully implemented as the Halo trilogy; the only real downside is that it's so addictive that you'll find it hard to tear yourself away. Finished the fight? Time to start another one! »

Vandal 95/100

« Halo Wars is possibly the best real-time strategy game ever made for console. It captures all the essence of the genre and, for the first time, translates it to our gamepad with absolute success. It's not like the dominating sort of strategy game in PCs, but it has its own, well defined personality, and its specific features, which define Halo Wars as a solid and outstanding bet. »

Xbox World Australia 92/100

« Halo Wars is such a good RTS because it does so many things right. It nails the Halo look and feel through its cut scenes, environments, units and even that distinctively saturated Halo colour pallet. »

Gaming Age 91/100

« It's a shame to see that Ensemble had to close their doors after this, because it's really the best attempt I've seen at bringing over a solid RTS experience on consoles, and I hope it's a game that other RTS fans (and even non-fans) will give a try, because it's definitely worth picking up. »

MondoXbox 91/100

« Ensemble Studios finally achieved a result sought by many developers this gen: creating a true console RTS, easy and amusing to play, yet keeping it highly challenging. Besides this, we get a great Halo story, with charismatic characters and amazing CGI cut-scenes. This game did for the RTS genre what the original Halo did for the FPS, and we're sure it will have a great impact in future games of this kind. »

Official Xbox Magazine 90/100

« Though it's not a first-person shooter, Halo Wars packs all the Halo fixings you've come to expect: an engaging campaign, co-op play, engrossing multiplayer, efficient party-friendly matchmaking, hidden skulls, Legendary difficulty, and impeccable controls. We can confidently say that it's the foremost example of a real-time strategy game done right on a console. [Mar 2009, p.72] »

Game Informer 90/100

« Halo Wars isn't perfect, but it's a huge step in the right direction for console RTS. For the first time in the sub-genre, I felt like I was playing a game instead of wrestling with a kludged-together control scheme. [Mar 2009, p.88] »

« It's a great game. I highly recommend it. It has a lot of action, its mechanics are very good, the story line is very solid and of course the master chief is great. »

RTCWFAN 9/10

« Halo Wars is a must play for all Halo and RTS fans. It has a cool story and the mechanics work wonderful. Overall rating: 86. »

Cult549 8/10

« Based on my 10-Point System, I have concluded that the game deserves a rating of 8/10. Graphics - Halo has always been on the forefront of graphics with its titles on every Xbox console. Halo Wars was no exception. The game looks great and the pre-rendered cut scenes were fantastic. 2 Points. Sound/Music - Classic Halo soundtrack for the win, however the voice acting was not the best. I had immersion broken for me constantly with cheesy dialog choices with the main character (Sergeant John Forge). I had also continued to feel like the sound mixing was just phoned in. Nothing special with this game. 1 Point. Level/Map Design - For this being a new type of game in the Halo series, I thought this was done very well. The game managed to have a level of continuity with the other titles. I felt like I was playing on a Halo map, just looking top down. No mission felt the same across the campaigns 15 missions. 2 Points. Performance - The game performed very well with the overall controls. No glitching, moments register on time and accurately. Surprisingly for this also being a PC title, I didn't feel like playing with a controller took away from the experience. Performance was solid. 2 Points. Enjoyment - Though the story and motivations were absolutely phoned in, the game manages to be a really fun time to play. I had thought that the campaign could have been a little more heavy and the story could have meant more. But this didn't take away from just how much fun I had commanding a UNSC ground team from Warthogs to Spartans. 1 Point. »

Yojimbo2015 7/10

« Essentially Command & Conquer set in the Halo universe, complete with appropriate story line to embellish the carnage. If you like either of those games, there's plenty to enjoy here. If you like both, you're in for a treat. »

HydrophobikFish 8/10

« Pretty fun campaign with lovingly recreated halo fanfare. Mediocre story with bland characters, but the character in the gameplay itself makes up for it. Custom games were pretty fun. »
