Garou: Mark of the Wolves, développé et publié par SNK, est sorti le 26 novembre 1999 sur une large palette de plateformes allant de l'Arcade au PC en passant par la Neo Geo AES et la PlayStation 4. Ce titre de la série Fatal Fury, fonctionnant sur le moteur Neo Geo MVS, se classe dans les genres Arcade et Combat. L'histoire se déroule dix ans après la mort du seigneur du crime Geese Howard, alors que la ville de Southtown s'est apaisée et que le tournoi King of Fighters: Maximum Mayhem débute dans la ville voisine de Second Southtown, réunissant des personnages liés aux combattants de l'ère précédente. Le jeu propose onze nouveaux combattants venus s'ajouter aux figures classiques, ainsi que trois modes de jeu uniques nommés Offensive, Defensive et Tactical, avec des Super Moves et des capacités cachées à débloquer. La version Steam permet de choisir parmi douze personnages plus deux supplémentaires et d'utiliser les mécaniques de T.O.P. System, Just Defended et Breaking, avec des modes Arcade, Multijoueur, Entraînement et Tableaux de classement. La presse a salué l'intérêt du jeu pour les amateurs de combats, Game Revolution évoquant un titre difficile à ne pas recommander tant il est détaillé, tandis que certains joueurs regrettent une conversion fidèle à l'original ou un nombre de personnages et l'absence de mode de combat libre, même si l'ajout du jeu en ligne a été apprécié. L'agrégat de notes s'établit à 79,27 et le prix est de 9,99 euros.

« "Mark of the Wolves" is the best "Fatal Fury" game ever made. This port is a simple one, but those who love this game will welcome the online play and extra modes. Those that haven't played "Mark of the Wolves" will be delighted with the graphics and fighting mechanics. But "Fatal Fury" purists may be put off with the changes to the look and gameplay. "Wolves" doesn't have the classic feel of a "Fury" title. It almost feels like a different series with the franchise name tacked on. However, it's a great fighting game regardless. I would rate this with an 8.2 out of 10. »
